Rental Tracking Software

We are taking a renewed approach to rental as we switch locations on campus.  Like many of you $ is a concern, but we want to start out right.  I am looking for software that uses barcode tracking and can manage the financials as well for a small rental program.  Any suggestions?

Try RecTrac with Vermont Systems. I have heard good things, but they were out of our price range.

If you do find some other options, I would love to know as well.  I know of one program many schools use from Diveshop express, but when I looked at it, it was too $$ for us. 

I got this (below) list from the American Rental Association. Some of the software looks good, while some of the other stuff does not look applicable to outdoor rental equipment. Good luck!

It is a check in/out program designed for libraries, I think.  It has asset management, renter information, fine calculation for those late and damaged items, and more possibilities.  It has a 30 day free trial.  Might be worth checking out.  I have orderd it and will be trying it soon.  I will repost after I have had some time to mess around with it.

I am looking for the same kind of system, but want it to mesh with Access, the campus database tool. This would enable us to combine the rental info with our complete program data - less manual re-entry that way. Anyone have any such set-up?

I have also seen Wasp Barcode Technologies frequently - I know nothing of their products, but might be worth looking into.

We bought the Wast system last year, and still haven't got it to work. The people who know most about barcoding on your campus is the library - talk to them. The software isn't the problem for us, it's finding labels that will attach to metal, wood, plastic and various fabris, be student- proof and well as washable etc. We still haven't found anything that does it all. Give me a call sometime and we'll chat.

What we have done it to put together a book of bar codes. they are not actually affixed to the item, but we have assigned a separate bar code for each item and the just scan it out of the book. It is not the best solution, i.e. mounting to the actual item, but at least we can use the system and track each individual item and it's usage. Maybe that helps. Ed Daugherty wrote:> Great to know.
