  10. Naturalists at Large provides Outdoor Education experiences for public and private schools throughout the school year.  All of our programs are custom designed with each client. 

    We use over 40 sites throughout California: Sequoia-Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Salt Point, Point Reyes, Morro Bay, Pinnacles, Lower Colorado River, Catalina Island, Coastal Redwoods, Santa Monica Mountains, San Bernardino Mountains, Big Basin, and Mono Lake to name a few.

    Our programmed activities include: Hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, rock climbing, high and low ropes courses, flat water canoeing, cross country skiing, backpacking, and team building. Additionally, we cover science topics such as astronomy, geology, ecology, marine biology, zoology, and botany.

  11. Lead students in 1-6 day outdoor education programs; grades 4-12. Teach natural history, environmental education & a variety of outdoor skills: camping, canoeing, cross-country skiing, and backpacking. Assist specialists (rock climbing; ropes course; kayak/snorkel instructors) with student instruction. You will be responsible for traveling throughout California to various sites each week. 
  12. 4-year university degree or equivalent in a related field. Experience working with youth in an outdoor setting. We look for demonstrated leadership, safety / risk management and facilitator skills. Additionally, a familiarity with a variety of outdoor activities and skills is a must. Current Wilderness First Aid and CPR Certification required. (No on-line certifications accepted.) 
  13. Entry-level compensation is about $90 per day.   For an average 4-day program plus a staff preparation day the pay is $446 plus room (or tent space) and board during program. A variety of specialized training are offered to employees throughout the season for Ropes Courses, Colorado River paddle trips, Catalina Island snorkel and kayak trips, Natural History, Rock Climbing/Anchor Building, and Outdoor Cooking. 
  14. Fall season begins with Staff Training, either Aug. 25 or Sept. 3 (based on your availability). Fall Season runs until the end of October. Spring 2013 begins in mid-March.
