The E.A Teacher  acts as a member of a team of professional staff delivering the emotional growth program of the school.  This work includes direct service time with the students, administrative work time, and evening floor time.  Working as directed by the Academic Director, the E.A. Teacher sees to the variety of expected and unexpected day-to-day needs of the Student.  The E.A teacher participates in or leads many of the core activities of the school which include group meetings, student activities, boundary-setting, physical education, multi-day trips, and celebration of school community events. An E.A teacher is responsible to role model the core philosophy and values of the Monarch School on a day-to-day basis.

  11. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The E.A. teacher is expected to have refined and developed the skills described below to a level that allows him or her to operate with less direct supervision and provide more supervision. A E.A. teacher thoroughly understands, operates by, holds students accountable to, and can explain Monarch School behavioral boundaries, agreements, and school philosophy.

    Provide exceptional leadership and positive professional relationships with students, parents, faculty using: sound judgment, clear boundaries, integrity, patience, commitment and energy, persistence, compassion, a cooperative outlook, awareness, creativity, a sense of humor, maturity, and a personal philosophy that is congruent with the Monarch School.

    Facilitate students learning about themselves, each other, their limits, and their personal goals.

    Lead, organize, facilitate, and attend student functions which include but may not be limited to:

    § Orientation and Sociology classes

    § Leading groups and workshopes

    § Writing assignments

    § Programs

    § Graduations

    § Work crews

    § Physical education activities such as basketball, volleyball, Frisbee, and hikes with a pack

    § Communications (including phone calls) to parents, faculty, psychologists, and all other personnel

    § Supporting students’ academic work and development by facilitating and monitoring academic plans, homework, and special needs

    Responsible for:

    · Criteria and indicators being met

    · Monthly newsletters

    · Student move-in functions that include but are not limited to:

              

  12. BA or BS degree in related field and/or equivalent work experience

    Ability to understand and work with today’s youth and families.

    Possess highly developed interpersonal and social communication skills and demonstrate the ability to:  facilitate group process, lead group discussion, set limits and boundaries, listen and give feedback constructively, present information clearly, and use inclusive language and behavior.

    Knowledge and ability to counsel and resolve conflict (process behavior, problem-solve and resolve, motivate, enhance self-esteem).

    Ability to write reports and plans.

    Computer skills that include word processing.

    Successfully pass drug, tuberculosis, and criminal screenings.

    Possess valid U.S. driver’s license.
