Uploading a File to the Library

Upload, file, Upload

You can upload a file to your community media page where it will be available to other users to downloaddownload.Your file will need to contain a file extension (ex: MyDocument.doc) in order to identify the type of file and upload it. Different upload sections allow for different types of file uploads. Typical types are Word - doc, docx, Excel - xlx, xlsx, PowerPoint - ppt, pptx, Adobe Acrobat - pdf.

Procedure

Navigate to the media gallery to which you want to upload the file.
Click Upload.

The Upload File page displays.

Click Specify File/URL. The Upload File modal window displays.

Browse from a file or multiple files or type the URL for the file you want to upload.
Click Save to close the modal window.
Complete the remaining media file information, such the name, description, and tag.
Click Save.

Adventure & Recreation Law Center Subscribers

This resource is available to subscribers only , so you have to be logged in at the Outdoor Ed Community so under the username of the account that you are authenticated subscribed to the service to be able to access the Adventure & Recreation Law Center. Click the Sign-in link at the top right corner of your screen to log in.

Once you are logged in there are numerous was to get to the Adventure & Recreation Law Center. The easiest way is to click on Blogs on the navigation bar at the top of the page. Once you are logged Logged in you'll Subscribers will see a submenu for the Adventure & Recreation Law Center (only visible to subscribers). Click this to take you directly to the Adventure & Recreation Law Center. You can also enter keywords like 'recreation law', 'reb gregg', or 'catherine hansen-stamp' into any search box and it will show you all the Recreation Law related items. You can also bookmark the page directly www.outdoored.com/community/blogs/reclaw.

We have a separate Legal Definitions page to help you navigate through the sometimes complex legal language. Key legal terms are linked in each article page and clicking on the link will take you to directly the legal definition. You can also browse the Legal Definitions page at any time.

Since this is a brand new resource at OutdoorEd.com I am still working on making the site as user friendly as possible for you to be able to access their articles and be able to post comments and questions. I am writing in case anyone was unclear about how to access the content.

Since this resource is available to subscribers only, you have to be logged in at the Outdoor Ed Community so that you are authenticated to be able to access the Adventure & Recreation Law Center. Click the Sign-in link at the top right corner of your screen to log in.

What Should Go in a Wiki Page?

Like Wikipedia, the Outdoor Education Wiki at www.OutdoorEd.com is designed to be an 'encyclopedia' of information about techniques and activities for outdoor education programming. The Wiki pages are designed to be permanent and updateable. Material should be applicable to individuals in the outdoor education field.

Anything posted to a general Wiki page is subject to addition and editing by registered members of the Outdoor Ed Community. All the Terms and Conditions of the Outdoor Ed Community site apply as in any other posting. We respect copyright laws which means that copyrighted material should not be posted unless correctly sited and in appropriate length. Professionalism and civility must be maintained by all contributors.

If you have specific copyrighted material that should not be editable, it can be submitted to the Articles Wiki Section or it can be uploaded to our Library Section.

The Wiki section is not a place to post advertising about companies, products, jobs, trainings, etc. Inappropriate material will be removed. If you believe that a particular page is not in keeping with these guidelines, please email us.

Adding Tags

A tag is a keyword or term associated with a post which provides a link to related information. Tags give you flexibility in structuring your Web site and help you map information. They also make the information in your Web site more accessible to user.

Tags are entered in the Tag Textbox at the bottom of a Wiki Page, Blog Entry, or Forum Post. Separate individual words or phrases with commas in the Tag Textbox.

Example: Wiki, adding tags, instructions

A tag cloud displays in the left or right sidebar of your Web page. The tag cloud contains a list of tags that link to any post within a forum, group, or blog that has tags. The following example shows the Community Server Wikis home page with a tag cloud in the right sidebar.

Community Server ranks tags by the number of posts with which the tags are associated so that the most used tags have the largest font size. In the tag cloud in the example above, the overview and widgets tags display with the largest font and therefore are used with the greatest number of blog posts.

When the user clicks a tag, Community Server displays the list of posts that use the tag. So if the user clicks on the wiki tag, Community Server opens a browser page that lists all of the associated posts, as well as the other tags associated with the posts.

Wiki Articles are standalone works written by one or several authors. These may be technical papers, journal articles, or other pieces. As an article they are designed to stand as a permanent work of the author(s) and so are locked and not editable by teh community. These are kept in the Articles Wiki Section in various Chapters. If you have material that should not be editable by others, then it's best to submit that as a Wiki Article or Upload the file in various formats to the Outdoor Ed Library.

Outdoor Ed Wiki Overview

The wiki home page displays when you access your community wikis.

The Browse Wikis panel displays the wiki community wikis. You can click on a wiki title to open the wiki. The icons to the left of each title indicate the user rating.

Outdoor Ed lists the most recently published wiki pages in the section below the Browse Wikis panel, along with filter settings:

All Pages - Lists all the wiki pages.
New Pages - Lists the wiki pages with the most recent at the top.
Updated Pages - Lists the wiki pages that have been revised.
Your Pages - Lists the pages that you have published.

The bottom of the page allows you to browse the wikis page by page.

The sidebar contains additional functionality, some of which will vary depending on the wiki theme. The example above displays two common widgets: Shortcuts and Tags.

Shortcuts provides you with access to wiki functionality, again dependent upon the user's administrative privileges. In the example above, the user can create a new wiki or access the wiki administration functionality on the Control Panel.

The tags list shows all the tags that are used by the wikis. Sometimes the list of tags grows larger than the space allotted on the sidebar. The user can click View More to view the entire list of tags.

Editing Pages & Locked Pages

To Edit an existing Wiki Page just click the Edit Tab and make your changes. The Outdoor Ed Wiki keeps track of previous versions as new edits are made. Some Wiki entries (like this instructional article) are locked and youi'll see a padlock icon next to the title that indicates that this page cannot be edited.

Attaching a Media File to a Wiki Page

The following procedure assumes you know how to create a wiki page.

Procedure

1. Place your cursor in the area of the wiki page text box where you want to attach a file.

2. Click the insert Media icon on the text box toolbar.

The Insert Media modal window displays.

You should use the Insert Media functionality to insert multi-media files.

3. Click Browse to find the file you want to attach. A Select Content modal window displays.

4. Do one of the following:

If you have not yet uploaded the file:
- Click Upload File.
- Select the file to upload.
If you have already uploaded the file, select from the tab where your file is located. In the example above, we will upload the file named 8-1-2008 2-54-17 PM, which is a .jpg file, from Test Wiki.

5. Click OK. Evolution automatically closes the modal window and returns to your wiki page with the file uploaded.

6. Click Save. The wiki becomes viewable to the users in your community.

Some themes also support a Wiki Page Attachments widget in the right sidebar. When a user opens the wiki page to view or comment on it, the attachment displays in the Wiki Page Attachments list.

The items in the list are live links, which display the attachments when the user clicks on them.

Wiki Syntax Support

The Community Server wiki supports the following wiki syntax/markup. Click here for additional information.

hello world

When the wiki finds double-bracketed text in the body of a post, it attempts to find a page with the name “Hello World” within the current wiki. If it finds a match, it renders the bracketed text as a link. For example, the following syntax

renders as 'This is a TEST', and becomes an active link to the existing page titled This is a TEST.

If the wiki engine does not find a post called 'hello-world', it creates a link to a new page stub. The link opens the edit page for the newly created link.

WikiName:hello world

WikiName:hello world works similarly to hello world but requires that the post exist in a wiki called wikiname.

hello world|This is an example works similarly to hello world but renders the link text as This is an example.

WikiName:hello world|This is an example

WikiName:hello world|This is an example works similarly to WikiName hello world but renders the link text as This is an example.

http://www.asp.net

Unbracketed http://www.asp.net creates a link asp.net and adds a trailing image to show that it is an off-site link.

www.asp.net|Microsoft ASP.NET

Single-bracketed www.asp.net|Microsoft ASP.NET works similarly to unbracketed http://www.asp.net except it uses Microsoft ASP.NET as the link text.

Double-bracketed imageName.png|This is caption text works similarly to ImageName.png except it adds the caption text.
