The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is seeking experienced, quality oriented outdoor leaders to supervise teams of ten locally recruited high school students.  Positively lead, mentor and coach a crew, ages 15-19, while completing various conservation service projects designed to build an ethic of community and environmental stewardship. Projects may include trail work (including repair, construction and maintenance), invasive removal, planting, and brush removal. In addition, leaders will facilitate pre- and post-program planning which includes crew training, environmental education and reporting.  These are full-time, seasonal positions.

  11. Crew Manager

    • Lead and manage work outcomes and crew dynamics
    • Oversee crew operations: tools & equipment, work schedule, etc.
    • Actively manage project/member risk to maintain a safe work environment
    • Plan for and carry out Green Jobs Readiness curriculum

    Technical Advisor

    • Supervise the skills training & safe tool use of crew members
    • Manage the quality & technique of work performed
    • Promote leadership development within team
    • Ensure successful and timely completion of work project

    Program Administrator

    • Communicate with SCA field support staff as required
    • Complete required program reporting and documentation
    • Manage budget and necessary purchasing for crew and project
    • Ensure compliance with all SCA Risk Management policies & procedures
    • Must be at least 21 years old.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license.
    • Must be in good physical condition, ability to lift 50+ lbs.
    • Must pass a criminal background check and motor vehicle report.
    • Experience working with Youth/Young Adults (age 15-18)
    • Experience as a teacher or leader in an educational environment
    • Experience in conservation or trail work. May also include experience with carpentry, landscaping, gardening, etc.
    • Must possess at least the following Medical Certification: Basic First Aid/CPR before Crew Leader Orientation.
    • Must have personal housing arrangements in program city
  12. Training Dates: June 7-15th (other dates available for those with extenuating circumstances.)

    Compensation: Up to $3795 total salary depending on experience & crew length
  13. Early-July to mid-August as well as training in June.
