    The George Mason University, Mason for Team and Organizational Learning (The EDGE), located at the Freedom Center on the Prince William campus, is seeking applicants for the position of Challenge Course Facilitator.

    The EDGE is an incredible opportunity to work with others in an exciting and stimulating environment. Applicants will join an expert team of facilitators on The EDGE challenge course, challenging themselves and the groups they work with. Our season runs from August 13, 2012, to Thanksgiving 2012, with the option to extend to the spring, summer and fall of 2013.

     

  11. Responsibilities:
    o Educator:
    – Effectively facilitate and process with group to inspire learning.
    o Group Management:
    – Properly set up and explain challenges to group;
    – Maintain control of the group; and
    – Create an environment to encourage the group to reflect upon challenges.
    o Ensure Physical and Emotional Well-Being of Participants:
    – Be aware of the risks associated with the challenge courses;
    – Fit and check the equipment to guarantee proper use;
    – Be ready to respond in an emergency situation; and
    – Be aware of and adjust to group or individual needs.
    o Course Setup, Maintenance and Inspection:
    – Inspect and set up high and low elements for daily use;
    – Occasionally assist with maintaining elements, equipment and trails; and
    – Adhere to and assist with The EDGE inspection practices.
  12. Qualifications:
    Required:
    – Ability to attend all training sessions;
    – Ability to work a minimum of three days per week (Monday-Sunday) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.; and
    – Have current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, or the ability to be certified by the start date.

    Preferred:
    – Experience facilitating experiential education programs including ropes/challenge courses, team-building, ground initiatives, and games; and
    – Adults pursuing a college degree; or graduates in a youth or education-related field including recreation, education, psychology and social welfare.

    Additional Information:
    Excellent communication skills are necessary. Additional necessary skills include: proven group management skills, sound judgment, desire to work outdoors in all weather, interest in working with children and adults, a knack for connecting with youth in a beneficial way, and the ability to have fun while representing Mason in a professional manner.

    This position is subject to a criminal background investigation. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of this process.
