During the spring and fall Program Instructors will plan, teach, and lead outdoor lessons in -- Environmental Literacy & Place-based Ecology (forest, wetland, karstlands, wildlife etc.), Challenge Course and Personal Development (teambuilding, low / high ropes course, community living etc.), and Outdoor Adventure Education (canoeing, hiking / backpacking, caving, rock climbing, wilderness skills, orienteering etc.), to students primarily in grades K - 12. 

     During the summer Program Instructors will carry out 1-2 week overnight adventure programs including backpacking, canoeing, caving, rock climbing / rappelling, and teambuilding through low / high ropes challenges primarily with campers ages 8-18. All camps emphasize group-building, character development, environmental stewardship, and skill mastery. Responsibilities are to supervise and teach campers in all aspects of the expedition including safety, leave-no-trace camping techniques, canoeing, rock climbing, rappelling, backpacking, and some caving. Expeditions for 13-18 year olds are driving intensive, and qualified leaders must be 21 years old to drive 15 passenger vans. Other responsibilities include facilitating evening activities at camp or at the campsite, and leading teambuilding initiatives.

    • Bachelor's Degree in environmental studies, education, recreation, outdoor leadership, or a related field; 
    • Prior experience teaching / working with children and/or leading outdoor adventure or environmental education programs; 
    • Personal and professional values consistent with the Sheridan School mission and values; 
    • Cooperative attitude and ability to be flexible; 
    • Certifications in First Aid and CPR are required by the starting date with the ability to obtain WFR by summer.
    • $275-$375/week (depending on experience);
    • Health and Dental insurance available;
    • Private room, modestly furnished (Platform Tent with Electricity or Single Cabin);
    • Meals during programs;
    • Free laundry and internet access onsite.
