  10. UCLA Recreation invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Program Director of Outdoor Adventures. We seek an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working in a team atmosphere and comfortable managing a large workload. The Outdoor Adventures program offers an array of instructional and recreational classes, clubs and programs including a challenge course, rock wall, bike center, rental gear, extensive leadership and guide training, trip programs and youth adventures. The Outdoor Adventures Program Director is responsible for managing and coordinating the Outdoor Adventures and Experiential Leadership Development operations for UCLA Cultural and Recreational Affairs. Responsible for development and management of outdoor trips which includes a multi-dimensional program in instruction, leadership and philosophy. The Program Director supervises two full-time coordinators for the challenge course/rockwall and trips instruction and reports to the Associate Director, Program Operations.
  11. Primary work responsibilities include program and facility administration and management, budget and fiscal management, enrollment administration, income generation, policy and program development, promotions and public relations, and personnel training and supervision.  The Outdoor Adventures Program Director supervises two full-time staff and part-time staff who work as instructors, clerks, guides, facilitators, and volunteers.  Additional responsibilities include departmental and university-wide collaboration in the development and implementation of programs, and coordination or assistance with department offered special activities.  The Program Director is responsible for implementing policies and procedures in accordance with departmental philosophies and policies and general University and Government regulations, as well as industry standards. The OA Program Director also represents the department on campus committees related to the facility, program and student development.

     

    The Program Director is also responsible for the appropriate and safe use of space and equipment showing particular attention to public safety, environmental impact and institutional liability.  The Program Director conducts safety inspections of the facility and equipment and collaborates with Facilities Division and other vendors on custodial and other preventative maintenance, oversees department campus vehicles, and researches and makes recommendations to Department regarding minor and major capital improvement projects.

  12. Applicants must have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in recreational administration, physical education, kinesiology, psychology, sports management, or equivalent.  Masters degree is preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage a multi-dimensional outdoor programs including scheduling, staff supervision, coordinating of maintenance and operations and oversight of many diverse user groups.
    • Ability to recruit and develop a diverse clientele to include UCLA and Los Angeles County residents, educational and non-profit groups, and campus and corporate groups.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and administer a fee based program consisting of a broad array of classes and activities.
    • Working knowledge of outdoor industry regulations as well as safety recommendations promulgated by recognized industry leaders and ability to teach and guide programs in ropes course facilitation, rock climbing, anchor building, mountaineering, orienteering, canoeing, wilderness first aid and other outdoor sports.
    • Demonstrated skill in financial analysis, planning, budget preparation, income generation, and expense allocations.
    • Firm understanding of risk management policies and practices related to boating activities.
    • Good communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and leadership skills.
    • Computer literacy with PC computers.
    • Must be able to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends and/or holidays
  13. $50,244.00 - $97,253.04. Salary based on experience.Benefits include: Health, dental, vision insurance package and University of California Retirement Plan. The position is a full-time Career position with the University of California
