  10. Under the direction of the OA Director, the Program Coordinator provides direct programming services and regular operational and logistics oversight of various aspects of the Outdoor Action Program. Duties will include logistical management of planning of the Frosh Trip Program, leadership training and development for student trip leaders, developing and supervising trip programs during the academic year, developing curriculum, supervising trip leaders, managing program facilities and student staff.

    Responsibilities

    Frosh Trip Program - The Program Coordinator assists the OA Director in the planning and organization for the Outdoor Action Frosh Trip which involves approximately 600 entering students and 180 student leaders on a six-day wilderness camping program including route selection, transportation, food and equipment, and managing components of the operating budget. The Coordinator supervises four full-time student employees during the summer.

    Leader Training - The Program Coordinator assists the OA Director in the professional development of Outdoor Action leaders and staff by participating in the design and delivery of training programs; training staff in a variety of leadership and outdoor skill areas.

    Weekly Classes & Activities - Under the guidance of the OA Director, the Program Coordinator coordinates weekly training classes offered by Outdoor Action that include first aid, CPR, leadership training, and other skills training classes. The Coordinator meets with student instructors, assists with curriculum development and provides ongoing supervision and support. The Program Coordinator works with the Director to establish the activity schedule for the semester including recruiting staff, providing training, helping developed activities, and writing curriculum. The Coordinator is also responsible for marketing across the campus.

    Operations & Administrative Support - The Program Coordinator supports the Director through ongoing administrative responsibilities that include scheduling rooms for events, managing transportation and travel reservations, overseeing student employees and scheduling, handling University Financial transactions.

    The Program Coordinator manages the Equipment Room which includes developing systems for maintenance and upkeep, inventory, rental services, care of equipment, equipment rental and distribution policies, safety checks, researching and purchasing equipment.

    Outreach & Community Service - The Program Coordinator works with the OA Director to develop outreach programs that provide Outdoor Action activities and services to Residential Colleges, athletic teams, student organizations, and University Departments. A strong emphasis is on reaching out to students of color on campus and other under-represented groups to expand the diversity of the program.
  11. Bachelors Degree

    4-6 years of relevant experience

    Current CPR Certification, Wilderness First Aid certification (Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness EMT), experience leading multi-day backpacking trips. Some duties involve leading outdoor trips in remote settings under difficult weather and group dynamic conditions. Current US/Canadian Drivers License and capable of fulfilling the University's requirements for van driver authorization.

    Excellent skills in writing for program documentation and curriculum development. Intermediate skills with Web-based research. Advanced skills with Microsoft Word. Basic to intermediate skills with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access.

    The ability to carry 50+ pound backpack on extended multi-day backpacking trips. The ability to move heavy equipment (50+ pounds) as part of Equipment Room inventory and maintenance. Ability to lift 60 lbs. 

    Ability to instruct wilderness camping and hiking skills in a remote backcountry setting with the possibility of exposure to difficult weather and trail conditions.
