Enjoy a truly unique and rewarding summer! The Aerial Adventures department manager will be in charge of the camp outdoor adventure course (high & low rope elements, zip lines) & indoor climbing wall (top rope & bouldering areas). The ideal applicant is over 21, with both managerial & teaching youth experience as well as familiarity of maintaining safety of the associated facility & equipment. We are looking for people who want to share their passion of their subject area with campers. 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Plan, direct, and supervise a safe and fun program

    • Write primes and dailies that meet camp goals.

    • Evaluate abilities of campers and staff.

    • Deliver creative program activities.

    • Follow guidelines in the safety manual and make suggestions for improvement as seen

  2. Train and supervise staff

    • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.

    • Train bunk and non-bunk staff of their department responsibilities.

    • Supervise staff to provide a safe and high-quality program.

    • Record/Document staff training.

    • Write staff evaluations.

    • Implement the scheduling of staff.

    • Directly supervise staff.

  3. Manage the physical facilities and equipment in the program area

    • Set up department area prior to and during staff training.

    • Teach and monitor proper use of equipment.

    • Conduct initial and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment for safety.

    • Check equipment, and make (or file for) repairs.

    • Conduct a daily check of equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.

    • Submit orders for equipment and supplies to Dan when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials.

    • Survey area daily, and keep the area free of hazards and debris.

  4. Participate as a member of the camp management team to plan, direct, and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions

    • Work with Program Director to for schedules of primes and dailies.

    • Assist in the planning of any special events on or near the department.

  • Participate in management and staff meetings.

Qualifications  

  • Previous experience in residential camping.

  • Previous experience in Climbing 

  • Certifications as needed by department (i.e., water safety instruction,  rigger certification)

  • Current certification in first aid and CPR. 

  • Prior experience in the development and delivery of recreational programs. 

  • Experience in supervising others, especially peers, is desirable. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Training and experience in a variety of program activities offered at the camp.

  • Ability to schedule and supervise staff.

  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.

Physical Aspects of the Position:

  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.

  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

  • Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques.

  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.

  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

Independent Lake Camp is a co-ed, non-traditional, residential camp located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. We are located 2.5 hours north of New York City and 2.5 hours north of Philadelphia in the small town of Orson PA. Independent Lake Camp attracts campers and counselors from all over the USA and abroad. We cater to ages 6-17 and offer 2 to 8 week sessions. We offer plenty of time off, one period every day and 4 nights per week. You will also receive one day off per week but not including the first and last week of your contract.  We are looking for staff who have an expertise in a certain area and a passion to share that expertise with kids.

Availability:  This position is available for summer 2022. Start date can be June 1st, or earlier in May to account for set-up, equipment inspections, etc. If applicant is not the right fit for Aerial Adventures Manager, we also have department staff positions as well (which include teaching as well as living in a bunk with campers).
