Associate Outdoor Education Leader
Teach Houston Independent School District (HISD) 5th Grade students in an outdoor classroom environment bordering the Sam Houston National Forest in Huntsville, Texas. As an Associate Outdoor Education Leader you will teach in classes, promote leadership with team building activites, and facilitate structured journal writing. Your primary responsibility will be supervising up to 14 students in a cabin group each week. You will be part of a diverse group of educators as we inspire Houston students in an outdoor classroom setting.
During non-student work days, a new AOEL should expect to work on a variety of projects including: lesson planning, class area setup, building new structures, creating new teaching materials, and maintenance of existing areas and materials.
Experience in an overnight residential camp environment, teaching, or other service related field.
College degree in applied fields. ( ie, education, environmental education, sports and recreation, forestry, many science related fields, sociology, ect.)
Military and other service organizations recognized as well.
You are U.S. resident/citizen or have current work visa
Approximately $23,000 annually.
Food during the work week is provided, not including Friday night.
Housing is provided along with a fully functioning kitchen, common living room area and laundry facilities.

Earn time in the Texas Teachers Retirement System. If you intend on teaching in the traditional classroom, this texperience is applied toward total years service.

By driving time, we are located about: 25 minutes from Huntsville, 60 minutes from College Station, 70-80 minutes from Houston, 3 hours from San Antonio/Austin/Dallas/Galveston, 6 hours from New Orleans, and 12-14 hours from the nearest mountains/ski slopes in New Mexico and Colorado.
