Full/Part Time: Part-Time
Appointment: Instructor for Backpacking course in the Physical Education, Athletics, Recreation Department. Fall Semester 2017. Course is PE 131 and the schedule is Monday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
This position combines evening classroom time and leading overnight backpacking adventures in the Pacific Northwest for up to 14 students. The course typically covers such topics as proper equipment and preparation, the basics of camping, cooking in the outdoors, safety, navigation and wilderness ethics. The primary emphasis of the course is to prepare students to lead trips on their own and to promote a lifetime enjoyment of the natural environment through hiking and backpacking.
• At least 3 years experience leading overnight groups in the backcountry
• Strong background in outdoor leadership skills
• Experience teaching and ability to present outdoor related curriculum in the classroom setting
• WFA required, WFR preferred.
• Valid driver license and clean driving record
• Experience backpacking in the PNW preferred but not required.
• First Aid and CPR certifications
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
