Job Description

Position Purpose:

The camp coordinator is a key member of the leadership team.  Responsible for all aspects of day to day operations and programming at the camp, the Camp Coordinator focuses on schedules and transportation, as well as the activity program. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • The Camp Coordinator is responsible for daily schedule management- reflecting weather and staffing changes.
  • The Camp Coordinator directly co-supervises the Senior Activity Counselors, meeting with them before camp to plan curriculum and order supplies.  During the summer, supervision includes helping staff continue to develop dynamic programming that meets the needs of our campers, and helping staff manage supplies, content and camper/staff management.  
  • The Camp Coordinator manages the transportation aspect of camp- including bus monitors, bus ridership, parent communications, attendance, and discipline.  In addition, the Camp Coordinator manages the field trip and off camp bus schedule and management
  • The Camp Coordinator serves as a member of the leadership team, working with the Camp Director, the AGCs and other coordinators to manage every aspect of camp.
  • Before camp, the Assistant Camp Director is integral in helping to plan and implement pre-camp and in-service training
  • Helping day to day planning and execution of all camp special events
  • Reports to the Camp Director.
  • A strong presence on campus building a one on one relationship with campers, staff and parents. 

Other Job Duties:

Corollary responsibilities may exist for equipment management staff, marketing staff, and/or travel or camper extended day programs.  

Relationships:

The Camp Coordinator works closely with every group at camp- leadership, aquatics, physical plant, campers, parents, faculty and staff. 

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (education, management, psychology, or other) and at least 3- 5 years working with children and prior experience supervising staff.  Preference for candidates with extensive camp or large program experience.  

Physical Aspects of the Job:

Camp Christopher is a 170-acre camp, with 2 pools, seven fields, and countless hills.  Some camps travel off campus, trekking or climbing.  Candidates must be able to maintain an active walking presence on camp, move equipment up to 30lbs, and maintain energy during long days outdoors.  The camp day is 8:45-4pm, but extended programs and staff meetings happen before or after camp.
