Camp Counselor

Job Description

Position Summary:  Position requires 24-hour supervision of 5-24 girls in grades 2-12. Organize and implement program activities, as well as uphold all policy, procedures, and safety standards for the wellbeing of staff and girls. Exhibit good role model behavior with campers and other staff.  

 

Camp dates: June 4 -  August 18, 2019

Please note camp will not be in session: June 29 - July 6, 2019 and Saturdays

A weekly salary of: $ 300 plus room and board

 

Major Accountabilities:        

  1. Supervise campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities.  

  2. Be responsible for maintaining the health and safety of campers.  

  3. Guide and implement program activities through girl/counselor planning and by creating lesson plans each week that reflect the session’s theme.  

  4. Know each girl in group, helping her to learn to respect the rights of others and understand and appreciate herself and others. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Help campers follow directions and rules. 

  2. Maintain and assure appropriate adult to girl ratios with groups. 

  3. Teach skills necessary to help the camper live comfortably in the outdoor setting and promote a sense of responsibility toward the preservation of natural resources.  

  4. Supervise and assist with cleaning, sanitation and care of supplies, equipment, and property. 

  5. Help each girl learn to respect the rights of others and appreciate herself and others. 

  6. Ensure implementation of Girl Scout Leadership Experience. 

  7. Keep records and return completed paperwork on time. 

  8. Assist with opening and closing of Camp for the season.      

  9. Implement emergency procedures, through regular practice drills.  

  10. Potentially accompanying girls on horse and/or adventure trips.  

  11. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Camp Director. 

Position Requirements: 

  1. At least 18 years of age. 

  2. Ability to lift 40 lbs. 

  3. Experience in teaching, guiding, and working with children. 

  4. Comfort and ability to live, sleep, and work in a rustic outdoor environment with irregular hours.  

  5. Leadership abilities to coordinate and supervise campers and activities. 

  6. Physical demands and work environment regularly requires the employee to walk, hike, and work outdoors in wooded areas and on uneven natural paths.  

  7. First Aid/CPR preferred but not required. 

  8. Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scout program and enroll as a Girl Scout member.
