High Sierra Logistics Coordinator

Job Description

The High Sierra support staff team attends to the big and small details to ensure smooth, uninterrupted program operations. The Logistics Coordinator (LC) is a crucial member of that team, and works under the direct supervision of the Logistics Manager and Head Logistics Coordinator. This position is perfect for the detail-oriented individual who enjoys feeding people, seeing projects through to a thorough and timely completion, and making things happen behind the scenes. The Logistics Coordinator directly manages the equipment, food, and transportation for courses 5-65 days in length.

Additional Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Willing to undergo a federal and Live Scan background check and provide current negative TB test results upon hire (cost of all screening paid for or reimbursed by OBCA)
  • Have held a current Driver License for at least three years and possess a clean Motor Vehicle Record
  • Willing to acquire California Class C Commercial Driving License upon hire
  • Hold current Standard First Aid (8-hour training), CPR, and California Food Handler certifications (or willing to obtain by start date)

Physical Requirements

  • Sufficiently fit to participate in all site- and logistics-related course activities while maintaining ample energy, strength, and focus to aid students and instructors
  • Able to carry weights of up to 60 pounds
  • Can be on feet most days, sometimes for long hours
  • Practice proper self-care and energy management while in the backcountry, or on multi-day trips, for extended periods of time
  • Able to maintain composure, exercise sound judgment and decision-making, and assess and mitigate risk under extended periods of stress
  • Able to operate a vehicle for 8-10 hours a day
  • Comfortable working outdoors, regardless of weather or season

Bonus if You

  • Are proficient at the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Comfortable driving trailer up to 12 feet in length
  • Hold a current Wilderness First Responder certification
  • Have prior experience driving in a professional setting
  • Have prior experience implementing organizational systems
  • Have field experience with outdoor education programs¬†

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of the Outward Bound mission and educational framework
  • Execute all logistical details, preparations, and support for several courses in the field at once
  • Coordinate the issue, de-issue, and maintenance of the High Sierra program outdoor equipment, including gear repair, laundry, and inventory management
  • Assist in the basic maintenance and upkeep of base facilities; provide kitchen support as needed or assigned
  • Transport instructional staff and supplies to and from course functions and support field evacuation transportation needs, as necessary
  • Maintain an excellent driving record
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections
  • Take regular inventory of food and equipment, and support in end-of-season inventory
  • Consistently strive to give and receive feedback with colleagues and supervisor
  • Demonstrate professionalism in attitude and appearance, acting as a role model for students
  • Attend Logistics Training (16 days)
  • Attend Student Management Training; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training, and All-Staff Orientation (3 days)

Compensation & Schedule

  • This is a Seasonal, Exempt position
  • Starting Per Diem wage is between $94 - $110/day
  • Room and board provided while on contract
  • Training begins during second week of May
  • Contracted to work 60 - 70 days per season, June through September

Location
This position is located at our High Sierra program base in Midpines, California, in the Sierra Nevada foothills 30 miles east of Yosemite National Park. The basecamp has a main building with office, warehouse, and commercial kitchen. Other buildings throughout include administrative and field staff housing and communal areas.
