The Ely Logistics Coordinator is a key person in the smooth operation of the Trips facility during the peak summer season. The LC is responsible for ensuring that gear is issued to instructors in good clean working order, and that the overall flow of the brigades coming and going runs smoothly. The LC is a main member of the logistics team, all of whom pick cages, process laundry, restock the food room, and ensure a clean building. The LC may supervise interns and volunteers on a day to day basis, and answers gear and food-related questions daily.

Logistics Support

• Responsible for fully participating in exceptional warehouse and food room organization, operation and cleanliness.
• In coordination with the Ely Head Logistics Coordinator, work within present systems to alert the Logistics Manager to anticipated shortages of food and gear.
• Work alongside interns and volunteers, training them in various tasks.

• Bake flappers and other summer bars.
• Supply, clean, and issue all equipment and supplies for courses.
• Perform needed repairs, acting within areas of expertise (sewing, boat repair, tent zippers) and learning new skills. Prepare equipment inventories and check for gear to be retired.
• Ensures that the school store is stocked and ready to go.
• Maintains the student clothing closet in a clean and organized fashion.

• Actively participates in all-school functions, events, and daily chores.
• Upholds and follows Voyageur Outward Bound School policies.
• Supports program as needed, including driving and other duties.

Physical Requirements

• Be able to safely carry loads of up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work long hours doing physical work.
• Able to sleep on ground, camp outside, etc.
• On feet 90% of time performing logistical tasks.

Knowledge and Skills

• Flexibility, a deep well of patience, and a sense of humor are paramount.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure proper care of gear and food.
• Ability to work as a team member in a cooperative environment.
• Equipment repair and maintenance experience preferred, with strong technical abilities in one of the following categories: sewing, boat repair, stove repair, zippers.
• Willing to work hard and take initiative to stay focused on project list despite constant distractions.
• Excellent driving skills and record.

Education and Work Experience

• Previous work in a logistics or warehouse setting preferred.
• Prior Outward Bound experience preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

• The Summer Logistics Coordinator (LC) is a seasonal, per-diem position.
• The position starts June 6 and runs through August 15. Start and end dates are very flexible.
• Rustic housing is provided with access to communal bathrooms and kitchen.
• Food is provided, and is prepared in summer when cook is on duty.
