Summary

COBS seeks to hire a collaborative, organized, creative and hard-working member of our logistics team! The Rocky Mountain Logistics Manager will support our mission and programing capabilities through direct coordination of program and basecamp logistics, including vehicles/transportation, warehouse, gear/equipment, basecamp/course supplies, and food. They will support COBS’ program logistical needs through implementation of systems and inventory tracking, as well as purchasing of gear, supplies, and food. The Logistics Manager is responsible for the supervision, training and scheduling of Rocky Mountain Program logistics staff. They report to the COBS Resource Manager, working closely with the Program Director, while serving on the Program Leadership Team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate as a member of the Rocky Mountain Program Team to determine and fulfill program needs, goals, and weigh in on decisions.
  • Manage assigned logistics systems to ensure appropriate inventory of food, supplies, and gear to meet program needs while meeting policy, budget, time and/or personnel restrictions.
  • Work with the Resource Manager in tracking gear, food, vehicle, supplies, and first aid inventories.
  • Supervise, train, support, and develop Warehouse Manager, Logistic Coordinators and interns.
  • Work with Resource Manager in pre-season planning of scheduled courses and itineraries. Advise on anticipated logistical needs and complete course planning sheets.
  • Participate in the Rocky Mountain Program emergency on-call system.
  • Participate in delivering logistic and driver trainings and tracking certified drivers.
  • Support scheduling and communication with third party transportation vendors.
  • Manage on-site equipment repair and advise on equipment conditions and needs.
  • Oversee vehicle checks and vehicle maintenance and communicate repair/maintenance needs.
  • Assist Resource Manager in tracking and reporting expense invoices and receipts.
  • Assist Resource Manager with vendor relations pertaining to COBS logistic department; including transportation, technology, and gear/food/medical vendors. Ensure vendor agreements are in place prior to each operating season.
  • Work with program team to ensure basecamp upkeep, standards, and systems.
  • Support ordering/purchasing of gear, basecamp and first aid supplies, and food based on program needs.
  • Work with facilities team to conduct basecamp opening/closing procedures.
  • Support and advise on field and base food inventory and systems to ensure they meet students’ and staff dietary needs, while maintaining budget criteria.
  • Advise on logistics’ training systems and manuals and support with manual updates and maintenance.
  • Provide direct support to courses, fulfilling the LC role as assigned.
  • Support with logistics and hosting of guests and events. Examples include Trail 100, special groups, service projects, board meetings, etc.
  • Follow and uphold all Colorado Outward Bound School policies and procedures.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrate commitment to the work of diversity, equity and inclusion; while continuing to make Outward Bound available to communities’ outdoor programs have previously failed to engage. 
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of OB programs and philosophy.
  • Possess skills to inspire and promote a positive team culture.  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, etc.).
  • Strong communicator and collaborator while working both independently and cooperatively.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive, productive relationships with students/clients, vendors, colleagues, and supervisor.
  • Detail-oriented with good, problem-solving, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent driving skills and record.

Education and Work Experience

  • 2-3 years logistics experience with some field-based adventure-programming experience.
  • 1-2 years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Commitment to obtaining a Wilderness First Responder certification.
  • Familiarity utilizing cloud-based software systems which plan, track, and report data.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Based in Leadville, CO, the position supports remote wilderness courses throughout the mountains of Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.
  • Frequent work outside, including inclement conditions such as heat, rain, snow, and extreme cold.
  • Occasional paticipation in vigorous to moderate physical activity including but not limited to camping, backpacking, etc.
  • Work at computer up to 60% of time. Work in warehouse and field support up to 40% of time. 
  • Ability to bend, lift, kneel, crawl, pull and carry up to 65lbs.

Compensation & Benefits

  • 10-month, salaried position
  • Salary Range $35,500 – 37,500 (pro-rated based on months worked).
