Overview
The American Youth Foundation-Merrowvista is a nonprofit outdoor and experiential education center specializing in youth development and character building for young people ages 8-18. We are a co-ed organization that runs onsite residential programming and wilderness adventure trips, all with the focus of helping young people discover and develop the best in who they are. The Media Specialist will support the camp programs by organizing media to be presented to families in a fun, appealing way.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Take, collect, and organize photos of campers and staff in camp.
  • Collect and organize photos from adventure trip leaders when they return from trips.
  • Train and supervise other staff as assistants.
  • Keep camp cameras charged and in good working condition. Keep track of cameras lent out to program areas and leaders.
  • During staff training, take pictures of all staff members and collect staff bios for opening day “Meet the Staff” posters.
  • Put together a slideshow for parents to see on each Grand Council day and an end-of-summer slideshow for staff closing.
  • Upload photos to camp’s Picasa website daily for parents to view, and write daily updates for the camp blog.
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Camp Programs for future equipment needs.
  • Set personal and professional goals for the summer and work toward achieving those goals.
  • Participate in community activities and meals, and strive to model the mission and values of the American Youth Foundation.
  • Buddy with an in-camp cabin:
    • Eat one meal per day with Buddy Cabin when in camp.
    • Join in and/or facilitate occasional small-group activities with Buddy Cabin.
  • Support the in-camp programs by reading stories and helping with homesick campers during the evening.
  • Support the adventure trips program on a rotating basis while they are in camp, lead down-time activities and games.

​Qualifications:

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Experience working with digital cameras, video cameras, and video editing software.
