Nature & Science Specialist

Job Description

Girl Scouts San Diego is seeking a Nature & Science Specialist to develop and deliver nature and environmental activities that are safe, fun and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities and reflects the Girl Scout commitment to stewardship of the natural environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide and create environmental education resources for campers outside of direct program; including all camp recycling, composting, etc.

  • Responsible to set up, inventory and maintain nature and environmental resource materials that are easily accessible and usable by camp staff.

  • Collaborate with unit staff to coordinate nature programs for campers.

  • In conjunction with Farm and Garden specialist, responsible for garden and animal care and programming.

  • Complete end of year report with summary and recommendations for future program and camp activities.

  • Assist in the general operation of camp as assigned by the camp director or program director.

  • Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all internal and external clients.

  • Adhere to all safety rules and precautions and comply with all council policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age; 21 preferred.

  • Demonstrated training in and knowledge of nature, environment and outdoors.

  • One year camp experience and/or at least one class or workshop training in environmental education.

  • One year environmental work experience preferred.

  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.

  • Submit health history record prior to first day of work.

  • Ability to interact with all campers and staff.

  • Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required. Must be comfortable driving narrow, winding mountain roads with passengers in mini or cargo vans.

  • Willingness to accept the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement and acceptance of the relevant and compelling benefits of Girl Scouting.

This full-time seasonal role begins June 13, 2019 and ends August 17, 2019
