Outdoor Educator ("Naturalist")
Naturalists at Greenkill are responsible for planning and facilitating classes in the areas of (but not limited to): Environmental Sciences and Ecologies, Outdoor Skills, Challenge Education (inclusive of high ropes elements as individual is comfortable). Naturalists are primarily focused on grades 4th-7th, with opportunities to work with all ages and demographics for schools/groups from all five boroughs of New York City + Long Island and into NJ, PA, CT.
The position is residential with private living quarters - including a private bathroom/shower. Living quarters are situated central to Greenkill (therefore a vehicle is not mandatory) and shared space includes a common room + full kitchen + outside deck. Room and board are part of the compensation package and this package also includes free WiFi and meals in the Dining Hall whenever there are groups in. Opportunities to enroll in full benefits and the YMCA Retirement fund is also available.
Requirements include a degree in a related field + the ability to carry at least 10lbs in a backpack all day while out maneuvering rugged trails.
There are opportunities for all seasons of outdoor educators - from a short 3-month stint, to a year-round position (when combining the school-year outdoor education season with our summer camp season). There are also options to become a non-residential, per diem educator as well.
