OUTDOOR & ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR
We are looking for a candidate to develop and implement Outdoor Education and Environmental Science opportunities for students from PK-12. The coordinator will plan and lead Outdoor& Environmental trips at the lower elementary, upper elementary, middle school, and upper school levels in collaboration with Division Heads and other trip leaders . Previous trips have included hiking in the Rocky Mountains with 8th graders, sailing in the British Virgin Islands with our 9th graders, camping at Petit Jean State Park with 4th to 6th graders, and a local overnight for 3rd levels. The coordinator will also organize a week-long sleep away camp in Oklahoma for students at the beginning of each summer. The coordinator will maintain relationships with area organizations to support the Outdoor& Environmental curriculum. Local daytrips with classroom groups, gardening and composting efforts, and nature walks along the creek on our campus are examples of other activities that allow the Outdoor and Environmental Education Coordinator to engage with our community. An ideal candidate is innovative, incorporating teamwork, research, and problem-solving skills in the design of the curriculum.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Texas Master Naturalist certification preferred
- Current Wilderness First Responder or EMT preferred
- Experience working with children/young adults and with leading multi-day wilderness trips
- Ability to interact and communicate appropriately and professionally
- Detail-oriented, with advanced organization/logistic skills
Ideally, our new coordinator could participate in some activities in late Spring/early Summer, such as 3rd level overnight and/or Camp Tahatan.
