Outdoor Instructor

Job Description

Dunn School is currently hiring instructors for our spring trip season.   We are looking for dynamic hard working individuals who seek to build great relationships with students and school faculty.  The Dunn Outdoor Education program is looking for outdoor educators with great ideas to help our program evolve.  At Dunn, the instructor plays a pivotal role in linking the wilderness and the classroom.  Each instructor will be paired with one or two faculty members and a group of 10 to 12 students.

Trips run from 5 to 15 days and many involve a wilderness component.  Instructors will be responsible for all aspects of each trip.  During prep days you will plan routes, check gear, familiarize yourself with Dunn Outdoor Education curriculum, pack food, and begin to build a relationship with your faculty counterpart.  During course days, the instructor is responsible for all aspects of the trip.  Responsibilities include risk management, student health and well being, administration of first aid, curriculum delivery, assisting with top-rope rock climbing, daily debrief and many more.  Once each trip returns to campus, students will complete the lion’s share of cleaning under instructor and faculty supervision.  Instructors are responsible for making or marking repairs, final clean up and assessment of program needs.

We’re very excited for our spring program this year and would love to see you in beautiful sunny Southern California!
