Program Wellness Coordinator

To provide individualized, sustainable, personal development within a safe, structured, experiential and natural environment in a culture of unconditional support and personal responsibility. Program Wellness Coordinator will have a primary focus of promoting the optimal wellness of Pacific Quest students by assisting in the self-administration of medications and supplements, implementing directives which occur on Field Wellness Plans (FWP), leading regular exercise groups, completing Weekly Wellness Checks for students, and leading regular Wellness lessons. Each Program Wellness Coordinator staff will work eight-days on, six-days off from Thursday to Thursday. The Program Wellness Coordinator will be among a team of Wellness Coordinators to provide adequate coverage to both Adolescent and Young Adult Programs throughout the year. In order to rotate through the Wellness Coordinator pool, Program Wellness Coordinators will be asked to cover field program guide shifts on a regular rotation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist assigned students in the efficient assistance of self-administration of medications/supplements.
- Complete and document Weekly Wellness Checks for all assigned students
- Implement all orders and directives occurring on FWP
- Lead scheduled exercise groups
- Lead scheduled Wellness lessons
- Conduct exit vitals for all students
- Report to Medical Wellness Coordinator, Wellness Program Manager, or Program Nurse of any wellness concerns for students
- Assist students in any first aid and self-care needs
- Wellness field inventories
- Track and maintain all field Epinephrine and first aid kits
- Gathering of arrival vital statistics from students and report to Program Nurse
- Record and report to Wellness all required directives such as daily vitals or daily food/water intake
- Observe eating patterns and water intake for assigned students
- Assist in snack and extra food preparations for the students
- Download lead and assistant leads for any outing medications and wellness plan needs
- Self-portioning exercise guidance
- Maintaining Kitchen dietary boards and portion tracking for students
- Observe and identify the needs of individual students and the group to create a physically and emotionally safe and supportive environment.
- Build and maintain rapport with students while holding boundaries that furthers therapeutic and Wellness outcomes.
- Role model for students the rules and behaviors we ask them to follow.
- Communicate clearly and appropriately to any situation with students, staff, supervisors, and managers.
- Complete delegated tasks in a timely, thorough, and effective manner.
- Maintain client confidentiality and keep appropriate boundaries related to self-disclosure.
- Maintain professional appearance and attitude in accordance with program policy.
- Manage personal needs and energy in order to perform job at highest quality.
- Understand and articulate the PQ mission, guiding principles, and Wellness curriculum.
- Participate in professional development through weekly in-service trainings on Thursday’s, end of shift debriefs, mandatory and voluntary trainings, and scheduled performance reviews.
- Pack all outing packs to ensure all medications/supplements are available to students while on outings and proper First Aid Supplies are included
- Cover program guide duties as assigned when acting as a program guid
With or without reasonable accommodation, the physical and mental requirements of this job may include the following: seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, frequent sitting, standing and walking, may be required for long periods of time and may involve climbing stairs, walking up inclines and on uneven terrain. Additional physical requirements may include, frequent lifting and or moving up to 50 pounds.
- Ensure compliance with all program policy in camp
- Ensure timely, professional, and thorough documentation
- Make lab runs when necessary using a Company vehicle
- Make pharmacy runs when necessary using a Company vehicle
- Maintain inventory and cleanliness of self-care and Wellness closets
- Accompany students to outside provider office visits and obtain appropriate records of visits
- Attend Weekly Wellness Meetings with other Wellness staff when on shift
- Schedule regular meetings with Wellness Program Manager to review Wellness lessons, topics, and curriculum
- Provide learning and training opportunities for co-staff through growth book check-offs, timely feedback, role modeling, and other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Healthcare field, Psychology, Farming/Agro ecology or Outdoor Education/Leadership
- Preferred qualification for Wilderness First Responder Training updated every three years
- Experience with “at-risk” youth or within wilderness therapy is a huge plus
- Requires ability to be a team player, to form mutually respectful relationship with staff and to grow professionally in meeting the challenges of the position
- Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. in accordance with Form I-9 requirements
- Must provide and maintain current CPR (from a classroom training) and First Aid certification. No substitutions can be accepted for First Aid certification (i.e. Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, etc.).
- Valid driver’s license with clean record
- Must pass thorough background check and drug screen
- Provide annual physical and TB clearance to meet the physical requirements of this position
- Must be 21 years or older
- Thursday to Thursday:
- Clock in time for Thursday start of shift: 9:00am
- Reed’s Bay based WC clock-in time for all other days of the shift is 7:30am, or as needed for effective assistance in medication self-administration
- Ka’u based WC clock-in time for all other days of the shift is 6:30am, or as needed for effective assistance in medication self-administration
- Reed’s Bay based WC clock-out time is around 8:00pm as needed for effective assistance in medication self-administration
- Ka’u based WC clock-out time is around 8:30pm as needed for effective assistance in medication self-administration
- Clock out time may be later depending on other responsibilities as assigned. These may include and are not limited to: supervising students, completing reports, completing student observation notes, participating in meetings.
- Wellness Department will determine if shifts occur in Hilo for YA program or Kau for AD Program as needed
