Ropes Course Facilitator

Job Description

Hockomock Area YMCA is seeking enthusiastic and caring applicants to lead teambuilding and ropes course programs this Fall. Located in North Attleboro, Franklin, & Foxboro MA, Hockomock Area YMCA Outdoor Education hosts elementary & middle schools, colleges, professional teams, and community groups from throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We offer a variety of 1 and 2-day ropes course based programs focusing on teambuilding, bullying prevention, trust, communication, leadership development, adventure recreation, and fun! We are seeking applicants who desire to make a difference in their community through outdoor education. Join us for a fun and rewarding work experience.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ropes Course Facilitators are responsible for leading large and small groups through a progression of teambuilding activities, low ropes elements, high challenge course elements, and reflective discussions.

  • Programs must always be facilitated in an environment that is safe, accepting of all people, and outcome oriented.

  • Facilitators use the ropes course to provide an opportunity for groups to recognize and safely reach their potential. This will include promoting self-confidence, positive group dynamics, and the expansion of their problem solving abilities.

  • Participate in trainings and professional development opportunities.

  • Be flexible with schedule changes and customer service

  • Participate in property maintenance safely and effectively

  • Facilitators are expected to be professional and work independently. 

Qualifications - Required

  • Be a positive role model and provide a safe environment for participants

  • A desire to help participants and peers learn

  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner

  • Display enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of humor

  • Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Must be able to clearly communicate verbally and in writing using English

  • Must be 18 or older

Qualifications – Preferred

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting

  • Ability to work with participants ranging in age from middle school to college

  • Experience leading teambuilding activities and/or low ropes elements

  • Experience belaying and with high ropes challenge courses

  • Understanding of the Experiential Learning process

  • Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills
