Interlochen Arts Camp is seeking Stone Lifeguards ad Boat Cave Staff for the 2019 camp season, 6/9/19-8/5/19.  The Stone Lifeguard and Boat Cave Staff reports to the Boat Cave Manager and the Director of Waterfronts and serves as an organizational resource to the Camp Life staff.  Lifeguards and Boat Cave Staff work daily ensuring a safe and enjoyable waterfront. Tasks include all lifeguard duties, maintaining waterfront and continuing to be in peak physical condition to mitigate any and all risks that come with supervising a waterfront.  Additional duties include, but are not limited to: Setting up and tearing down waterfront boundaries, transporting or delivering equipment, keeping equipment inventory, assisting with camp division programming and attending lifeguard in-services. This position will also aid staff as needed to support recreation electives and regular cabin night activities.  The stipend for this position is $1,600/summer and includes all meals & housing in a rustic cabin setting, typically shared with other camp life, recreation and waterfront staff.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be lifeguard certified - training provided

  • Small craft certified - training provided

  • Physically able to assist with preparation, hauling of equipment, cleaning, and maintenance of camp division facilities and spaces

  • Recreation and waterfront staff must have the ability to effectively engage in appropriate communication (verbal and non-verbal) with students and other staff.

  • Exhibit outstanding organizational skills

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Manage emotions appropriately and professionally in high-stress situations

  • Daily duties will be both inside and outside regardless of weather

  • Ability to function effectively and work cooperatively with peers

  • Commitment to self-care (adequate sleep, physical exercise, nutrition, mental acuity)

  • Self-advocacy skills to seek assistance from others when facing difficulty

  • Manage multiple commitments and responsibilities to ensure deadlines are met

  • Outdoor Education or lifeguarding background a plus

  • May be required to drive an Interlochen vehicle; must be eligible through Interlochen’s process
