Ideal candidates are committed to youth development, excited to work at camp, and want to do the best job they can. They are game for meeting new people, being silly in front of children, and role model our values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Our camp is remote and has limited internet access. Campers and staff are encouraged to unplug, so ideal candidates must be comfortable detaching from their electronic devices when they are working.
Room and Board
Room and Board provided. Live in rustic cabins on-site in the redwood forest all summer and eat delicious meals in our dining hall. During days off, meals are still provided for staff who would like them.
Make friendships that last a lifetime.
- Learn from extensive training, youth work, and leadership experience
- Earn a generous weekly salary (depending on the position) plus room and board provided in the beautiful redwoods an hour from San Francisco.
- Have the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child.
Getting Here and Getting Around
We provide transportation to and from local airports, bus/train stations, etc. Staff live on-site so don't generally have to leave during the work week. During time off, some staff outings are organized by camp directors who often provide transportation while others are coordinated informally among counselors offering rides. As our site is remote, having a personal vehicle can certainly be helpful but there's usually someone around who can offer a ride if you need one.
We have an amazing community of people living at camp every summer. Lots of international staff come in from around the world, so it's a great way to meet people, learn about other cultures, and provide yourself with options for places to stay across the globe. On days off, adventures in the redwoods nearby or down to the beach (only 12 miles away), trips into San Francisco or Santa Cruz, drive-in movie nights, and many other outings are a big part of the culture. Fun things to do are easy to find, whether you are looking for an adventure in the outdoors or in the city.
Summer Season Dates: June 10th-August 10th including a week of staff training that begins on June 10th.*
*Some positions (backpacking instructors, lifeguards, and coordinators, for example) may need to start earlier for additional training.
