Supervisor - Outdoor Education, Full-Time (Portland)

We guide kids to learn wilderness survival, farm craft, and mariners skills while creating immersive camps and programs with epic story adventure.
Your job? As a Supervisor, you act as a mentor for teams of Trackers Guides and youth embarking on outdoor adventures. You plan and prepare for seasonal break camp programming, teach in school year programs, and lead teams of Coordinators guiding kids during break camps. You collaborate with families and Trackers leadership to deliver the highest quality experience for youth.

This position includes managing and teaching in programs themed in any of the following:
- Real Outdoor Skills for Early Childhood (Grade K-1)
- Stealth, Archery & Wilderness Survival (Grade 2-5 or 6-12)
- Animals, Farms & Wild Crafts (Grade 2-5 or 6-12)
- Fishing, Boats & Foraging (Grade 2-5 or 6-12)
- Spies, Wizards, Elves, Treasure Hunters & Dinosaurs (Grade 2-5 or 6-8)
- Sailing, Canoeing & Kayaking (Grade 2-12)
- Climbing, Search & Rescue or Paintball (Grade 6-12)
- Overnight Residential Camps or Expeditions (Grade 4-5 or 6-12)
- Summer, Winter, Spring Break Camps Supervise and manage multiple Trackers Coordinator Guides (4-10) and their teams during break camps.
- School Year Engage in pre-production for programming, co-develop curriculum, prep materials. Teach 1-4 days (average 3) a week in 7 week terms (Fall/Winter/Spring).
- Recruit, assemble, train, manage, and evaluate Coordinator, Lead and Specialist Guides for optimal safety, quality, operations, and alignment with Trackers Teams culture.
- Administer risk management and governance frameworks, as well as Trackers Earth policies across all teams and locations.
- Direct team in proper usage of program gear. Create a culture of effective organizational tidiness. Investigate when this deviates.
- Provide fun, engaging, and safe experiences for program participants and co-workers. Exceed the expectations of Trackers Earth customers and families
- Organize, analyze, and respond to customer/guardian communication, providing compelling and effective communication with kids, adults, and families all settings.
- Report to management and leadership teams regularly. Communicate safety and health information thoughtfully and effectively to leadership.
- Internalize all assigned developmental content, integrating it into mentoring Trackers Teams and Guides.
- Maintain and safeguard confidential information.
- Fulfill assigned duties in an emergency situation. Other duties as assigned.
2+ years (or 6 seasons) experience leading and managing adult teams, preferably in outdoor or educational settings.
- Implementing systems and processes with a team of adult colleagues of more than 2, with a commitment to organizational governance (incl. safety, risk management, and quality)
- Implementing organizational frameworks, trainings, objectives, and value.
- Identifying, synthesizing, and effectively communicating objective (organizational) feedback to colleagues with measurable, positive outcomes
- A high level of communication effectiveness with customers, managing solution oriented best practice.
- 2+ years (or 9 seasons) experience in outdoor education or 3+ in general education
- Experience with summer camps similar to Trackers and/or skills relevant to Trackers content.
- Proven ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement that reflects high-level thinking while managing campers and staff in remote locations with limited support.
- Proven ability to coordinate and plan for complex logistics, flexibility in working with challenges.
- Able to act as a role model and support the culture of the Trackers Code and Trackers Elements (outdoor skills) with youth.
- Experience working with large groups of youth while dividing them into smaller, self-directed teams.
- Posses grit, becoming more calm and creative, not emotional, when challenged.
- Model professionalism while supporting youth, families, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Ability to continuously stand, hike backcountry terrain on and off-trail, bend, squat, climb stairs/hills, lift up to 50 lbs.
- Completed Vaccinations for COVID-19 (verification required)
- CPR/First Aid/Anaphylaxis & Epinephrine Auto-Injector certified (or ability to complete before position begins).
- Food handlers certified (or ability to complete before position begins).
- State fishing license.
- Pre-employment checks (completed by Trackers): criminal background & references.
- We can help you get this: Class B CDL license (large bus with passenger endorsement) and driving experience. You will have 8 weeks from the date of hire to obtain this license if you do not already have it. You must have your CDL driver’s permit before the first day of work. Trackers offers training options to assist staff in getting this required certification.
