About Trackers Earth

For over fifteen years, tens of thousands of families have Tracked experiences outdoors with our year-round Guides -- in seasonal camp events, through outdoor sport, mentor and apprenticeship programs, and during after-school and school-day adventures.

About the Part-Time Guide / Educator Role - Summer

The Part-Time Guide is a part-time educator that serves as a peer leader and program educator in Trackers Programs. Part Time Educators are the active cornerstone of teaching, program logistics, curriculum, and camp experience.

Non-Exempt, hourly, average of 5 to 16 hours a week, occasionally additional days

 

Our team environment can be demanding, requiring intense dedication and caretaking for program safety and standards. Our programs are dynamic--including format, location, and ages of participants; we are seeking team members who will not just assimilate but thrive in variable environments while delivering fun and inclusive outdoor experiences for kids and families. 

 

Responsibilities (What you’ll do):

  • Provide fun, engaging, and safe experiences for program participants and co-workers

  • Teach and team coordinate Trackers Earth curriculum and program experiences 

  • Ensure group activities for each age group are developmentally appropriate and engaging.

  • Be a mentor, and remember what it’s like to be a kid. Create fun!

  • Work with Guild Directors and team members to implement and innovate on skills and experience curriculum developed by Trackers Earth.

  • A high level of communication effectiveness across: families, kids, and adults in group and individual settings. 

  • Report to team leaders on a daily and weekly basis 

  • Liaise with operations, talent, and HR teams daily and weekly

  • Evaluate the performance of and provide feedback and reporting to team members with the goal of making programs better and more impactful.

  • Through Trackers Earth training, learning, and development, become familiar with company mission and values, and be additive to our team experience.  Must like a little edge and creativity !

  • Recognize, mitigate, and respond to hazards to ensure a healthy and safe program for all staff and participants.

  • Fulfill assigned duties in an emergency situation.

  • Communicate health and safety information clearly and effectively to the Guild Director, Office Camp staff, other Team Coordinators, Teachers, Educators, Assistants, and other staff. 

  • Maintain and safeguard confidential information. 

 

Qualifications and Requirements 

  • Must have worked with kids and submit to a background check 

  • Must love connecting kids and families to the outdoors while creating safe and fun experiences 

  • 1+ year experience in outdoor education (or demonstrable equivalent), or 2+ years experience in formal education (or demonstrable equivalent)

  • Must reside in area / city of program delivery

  • Demonstrable experience in leading a team

  • Must be physically able to lead students in hikes of up to 10 miles in a day.

  • Must have visual, perceptual, cognitive and judgment ability to: recognize and respond verbally to health and safety concerns and appropriately mitigate and respond (ie handle!) improper behavior.

  • Vision requirements include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth and perception (three dimensional vision, ability to judge distance and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eyes to bring an object into sharp focus).

  • Work environment includes open flames, toxic or caustic chemicals, and all season outdoor weather conditions.

  • Noise level is very quiet (examples: forest trail, isolation booth for hearing test) to loud (examples: blacksmithing workshop, large earth-moving equipment).

  • This position occasionally requires overnight camping in traditional and Better Than LNT shelters or possibly a tent during programming.

  • Physical Demands: 10% Sitting, 30% Standing, 20% Walking, 35% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling Pounds 5 - 80 lbs

  • CPR/First Aid certified (or ability to complete before position begins) 

  • Anaphylaxis & Epinephrine Auto-Injector certified (or ability to complete before position begins)

  • Food handlers certified (or ability to complete before position begins)

  • State fishing license (if working with programs that fish)

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Trackers Summer Programs and experience with Trackers Year-Round Programs and skills relevant to the Team assigned. 

  • Peer / team leader (demonstrable experience managing teams)  

 

Benefits and Compensation

Seasonal - Summer 

Non-Exempt, hourly, average of 36-40 hours a week

Compensation: $18 per hour + bonus add-ons (Added compensation for CDL and other certifications and licenses) (cap of $20.00 per year)
