Job Description

Position Summary:  Take campers on horse and adventure trips on and off camp property while providing 24-hour supervision of 4-12 girls in grades 5-12. Organize and implement program activities, as well as uphold all policy, procedures, and safety standards for the wellbeing of staff and girls. Exhibit good role model behavior with campers and other staff. 

Camp dates: May 28 - August 18 2019

Please note camp will not be in session: June 30 - July 6, 2019 and Saturdays

A weekly salary of: $325 plus room and board


Major Accountabilities: 

  • Supervise campers’ participation in structured and unstructured activities. 

  • Be responsible for maintaining the health and safety of campers both in camp and off-site on field trips. 

  • Implement program activities through girl/counselor planning. 

Lead adventure trips both on and away from camp that include but are not limited to:  
(Guides will be provided in some program areas; thus, experience is not always required) 

  • ​Hiking/Backpacking 
  • Camping 

  • Rock Climbing 

  • White Water Rafting 

  • Horseback Riding 

  • Kayaking  

  • Canoeing 

  • Caving 

  • Ziplining 

Know each girl in the unit, helping her to learn to respect the rights of others and understand and appreciate herself and others. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Help campers follow directions and rules. 

  • Make sure campers have appropriate activity attire and equipment prior to departure. 

  • Maintain and assure appropriate adult to girl ratios with group. 

  • Teach skills necessary to help the camper live comfortably in the outdoor setting and promote a sense of responsibility toward the preservation of natural resources.  

  • Supervise and assist with cleaning, sanitation and care of supplies, equipment, and property. 

  • Help each girl learn to respect the rights of others, appreciate herself and others. 

  • Ensure implementation of Girl Scout Leadership Experience. 

  • Keep records and return completed paperwork on time. 

  • Assist with opening and closing of Camp for the season.          

  • Implement emergency procedures, through regular practice drills.   

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Camp Director. 

Position Requirements: 

  • At least 18 years of age; 21 years of age preferred. 

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. 

  • Experience in teaching, guiding and working with children. 

  • First Aid/CPR, WFR, WFA, or Lifeguard preferred but not required. 

  • Leadership abilities to coordinate and supervise campers and activities. 

  • Able to read and navigate road maps. 

  • Experience with canoeing, rock climbing, camping, and/or backpacking trips. 

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license for at least three years. Valid driver’s license, compliance with the council’s policy of automobile insurance limits, and a driving record that meets the requirements for coverage of the council’s business auto insurance carrier. 

  • Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scout program and enroll as a Girl Scout member.  

  • Comfort and ability to live, sleep, and work in a rustic outdoor environment with irregular hours. 

  • Physical demands and work environment regularly require the employee to walk, hike, and work outdoors in wooded areas and on uneven natural paths.
