Waterfront Manager

Job Description

Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking to hire Waterfront Managers of the 2019 season of Interlochen Arts Camp.  The dates of this position are June 9, 2019 - August 5, 2019. The Waterfront Manager reports to the Director of Waterfronts and serves as an organizational resource to all Camp Life. The Waterfront Manager oversees the waterfront facility for their assigned location. This position works cooperatively with the waterfront leader for the divisions that utilize their location. The waterfront manager ensures the facility is safe and following all regulations outlined.  The Waterfront Manager manages the lifeguards on duty for the location and also assists or manages remote location waterfronts. This position will also aid staff as needed to support recreation electives and regular cabin night activities.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be lifeguard certified - training provided

  • Small craft certified - training provided

  • Physically able to assist with preparation, hauling of equipment, cleaning and maintenance of camp division facilities and spaces

  • Recreation and Waterfront staff must have the ability to effectively engage in appropriate communication (verbal and non-verbal) with students and other staff.

  • Exhibit outstanding organizational skills

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Manage emotions appropriately and professionally in high-stress situations

  • Daily duties will be both inside and outside regardless of weather

  • Ability to function effectively and work cooperatively with peers

  • Commitment to self-care (adequate sleep, physical exercise, nutrition, mental acuity)

  • Self-advocacy skills to seek assistance from others when facing difficulty

  • Manage multiple commitments and responsibilities to ensure deadlines are met

  • Outdoor Education or lifeguarding background a plus
  • May be required to drive an Interlochen vehicle and so must be eligible through Interlochen’s process

Compensation for this position is $2000/summer (Housing is provided and is located in a rustic cabin setting, typically shared with other camp life, recreation and waterfront staff).
