This 9-day standard course is taught at the Outward Bound basecamp in Midpines, which is nestled in the woodland foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The amenities of the basecamp combined with the remote feel and wild terrain make for an ideal site for taking a Wilderness Medicine course.
Nearest Airport: Merced Regional (MCE) or Fresno (FAT)*
Public Lodging: For an additional fee ($150) quonset-style tent housing is available on site. Additional lodging can be found in Mariposa, 9 mi. from the basecamp, or at the Yosemite Bug Hostel, within a 10 min. drive.
*This airport is served by YARTS public bus system with a direct route to the Midpines basecamp.
Note: The quonset-style 'Weatherport' shelters are unheated and sleep 1-2 people on simple cots. Public participants must bring their own bedding and personal-care items. Access is provided to a shared kitchen, showers and common room, with Wi-Fi available. Meals will not be provided and public participants must supply their own food, however, all participants will have access to a microwave and small mini-fridge to store lunch and snacks during the class. All those not choosing to stay on-site must leave the basecamp after the class concludes each day. Please contact Lindsay Blake for availability.
