Job Description

Join us in the important role of Program Director at the 2020 season of Interlochen Arts Camp.  The Program Director will lead staff in the coordination and execution of age-appropriate recreation activities, complementing the artistic program.  The Program Director plans and organizes all recreational activities, co-recreational activities, oversees the recreation facilities and storage, and coordinates recreational classes, food and special activities within the camp division. The Program Director is the liaison between the division and the recreation program and is responsible for cultivating community through outdoor and recreation programming. Housing and ALL meals are included! 

DATES and SALARY:

  • Friday, June 18, 2020  through Monday, August 11, 2020

  • $2,800/summer (Housing is provided and is located in a rustic cabin setting with campers and cabin counselors)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Share a living environment with campers ranging in age from 8-18 years old

  • Must be 18 years of age. In most cases, Recreation and Camp Life staff must have one year of independent living following high school graduation in order to be considered for employment in this area

  • Ability to think on your feet, comfortably manage emergent situations

  • Manage emotions appropriately and professionally in high-stress situations

  • Daily duties will be both inside and outside regardless of weather

  • Ability to function effectively and work cooperatively with peers and divisional leadership

  • Commitment to self-care (adequate sleep, physical exercise, nutrition, mental acuity)

  • Self-advocacy skills to seek assistance from others when facing difficulty

  • Manage multiple commitments and responsibilities to ensure deadlines are met

  • Consistently modeling appropriate behavior and attitude

  • The program director will assist with occasional overnight coverage for managing staff days off.

  • Physically able to assist with preparation, hauling of equipment, cleaning and maintenance of camp division facilities and spaces

  • Outdoor Education background a plus
