Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Provides ROPES Course curriculum design assistance and Operations Support through the Center for Character & Leadership Development’s (CCLD) Director of Experiential-Based Learning (EBL).

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

  • Assist the CCLD with Experiential-Based Learning curriculum design and support the CCLD Development Division chief as a subject matter expert (SME) as the CCLD assists other mission elements at USAFA with their programs.
  • Support the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning with writing, researching, editing, and supporting the ROPES Course educational plans and curriculum.
  • Meet with mission element (ME) representatives and observe ME practices to find opportunities to use ROPES Course experiences to support mission objectives.
  • Attend periodic CCLD staff meetings, and weekly management meetings. Provide weekly and monthly project status information for the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning via email, PowerPoint, and in-person.
  • Assist the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning with pre-event practices, walkthroughs, and logistical rehearsals to ensure successful ROPES Course execution.
  • Assist the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning in review and production of the Operating Instruction for ROPES Course.
  • Assist the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning in review and production of Instructor Handbook for ROPES Course (educational reference book for in-field use by facilitators/ instructors).
  • Assist the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning in review and production of the ROPES Course Lesson Plan and Assessment (a co-produced document with USAFA Cadet Wing (CW) that includes learning outcomes, samples of behavior, and assessments, approved by CWC curriculum experts).
  • Provide the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning on-site ROPES Course assistance to include hands-on execution and advice, site scheduling, and emergency response actions.
  • Assist the Director of Experiential-Based Learning (EBL) in creating Summer EBL program curriculum and documents and with scheduling and logistics planning for EBL programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: BS or higher desired.

Certification: Possess and maintain Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Level 2 Practitioner certification required.

Experience:

  • Background in outdoor education or experiential-based learning to include outdoor challenges, teambuilding, and life lessons-style education.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in challenge course facilitation or adventure programming.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and demonstrate good program management skills.
  • Possess an understanding of military ranks and protocol.
