ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS  As one of the longest running non-profit summer camps in the region, our summer jobs are a great way to gain great experience in youth development and education, expand your own skill set and join a team where staff members are valued as the heart and soul of what we do. Its also a GREAT summer job where you can spend your days doing fun activities working with great kids and a wonderful team of staff.

We are proud that 2022 will be our 100th year offering summer camp! 

Our excellent programs are financially accessible to children from ALL socioeconomic backgrounds and to guarantee that no child misses out on the summer of a lifetime because of inability to pay. 

We recruit a dedicated, talented, driven, diverse staff who are encouraged to be creative and think big – to bring their own ideas and skills to each of our programs.  We have a wide variety of jobs available, and bring in staff from all over the USA and around the globe to bring our programs to life. 

Campers and staff get to participate in: Boating, fishing, arts & crafts, hiking, climbing, biking, music, gardening, farm animal care, cooking, group games, talent shows, campfires, farming, sports, swimming, diving and any other activity our fabulous camp staff can think up!

OUR IMPACT

All of our summer program fees are heavily subsidized, thus ensuring that all children can afford to attend our camp.  We are able to offer a high value program at a much reduced cost thanks to our many funders and sponsors.

We look for folks who can make good judgment calls, are hard working, self motivated, flexible, enthusiastic and prepared to dive into any and all activities that we offer.   We recruit staff who will be positive role models, who are patient, compassionate and genuinely committed to the welfare and development of young people!   

Our ideal staff members are comfortable working in a beautifully diverse community, have a great sense of humor, and a desire to be all-in on creating  fun, safe, welcoming place to learn and grow.  They are collaborative, spontaneous, willing to be goofy but also have a good head on their shoulders! REQUIREMENTS

  • We prefer a minimum of 1 year post high school, or 1 year of college or work experience, but we will consider those with less depending on position

  • Previous experiences working with children is essential

  • Ability to be a positive role model and  set great examples for campers and staff alike

  • For specialized positions such as pool, trip, bikes, ropes or camper advocate positions – we require skill specific certifications and experience.  Details of these specific skills can be found by contacting us or checking each individual job description.

OUR CAMP

College Settlement Camp is a beautiful 235 acre site located in Horsham, PA.  We are conveniently located 15 miles outside of Philadelphia.  Our camp includes a 4-acre pond perfect for boating and fishing, wetlands and many small streams where salamanders, frogs and fish can be found,  meadows and woodland trails that teem with wildlife and campers playing all sorts of games.  We also have a real organic farm on site run by our partner organization Pennypack Farm, and we take our campers there to help plant, harvest and taste test the great fruits and vegetables grow on site. 

We have several pavilions, two nature centers, 2 dining halls/multipurpose buildings, and cabins for our Overnight Camp programs. We also have two swimming pools, both low and high ropes courses, climbing towers and tree houses.

COVID PRECAUTIONS

All staff and campers must be fully vaccinated to be on site.  We will follow all CDC guidelines for COVID precautions and will update these as changes occur.

We have CDC approved cleaning, sanitization, contact tracing and communication protocols in place for the summer.

SUMMER POSITIONS

PROJECTED DATES Staff orientation and camp sessions run between June 8th (specialized training) or June 12 (counselor training) though August  12th 2022.

We have residential (live at camp) and day only (live at home) positions for each of the following positions.  ALL staff members share counselor duties when not running their specific program activities. 

Below is a brief description of each job and the experience and qualifications required:

  • General Counselor (Minimum age 19+) Counselors work directly with their own group of 7-12 year old campers. Counselors spend summer participating in all the activities with their kids, and get to lead activities they have expertise in.  Counselors have the most vital position of the summer – and are the staff member making the magic happen for the campers! Bus counselor positions also available (ride the bus to/from Philadelphia with campers as supervisors)

  • Teen Adventure Program Counselor (Minimum age 19+) TAP Counselors work with our 13-14 year old campers. The program is based on more challenging activities such as hiking, camping, mountain biking and white water rafting. TAP campers and counselors spend time at base camp and our Spruce Ron Outpost on the Pocono mountains.

  • Village Leader (Minimum age 20+)  Coordinate all aspects of a camp “village” consisting of 30 campers plus 5 staff.  Schedule and organize village activities, mentor and supervise counselors, act as village lead, support staff in their daily programs. Experience with camp programs, youth work, supervisory/leadership experience required. 

  • Environmentalist (Minimum age 20+) Environmental Education specialist lead small group activities such as creek crawls, nature hikes, fun “nature stuff”.  They are responsible for and teach about our camp animals collection – donkeys, goats, chickens, snakes, etc. Experience with teaching, environmental education, science education or other relevant experience required. 

  • Bike Program Leader (Minimum age 19+) Lead mountain biking activities round camp, teach campers bike safety, teach campers how to ride a bike – perform basic bike maintenance on fleet. Experience with basic bicycle maintenance desired

  • High Ropes Program Leader (Minimum age 20+) Previous experience required  Lead climbing tower and high ropes activities, teach basic belay skills, set up and take down equipment and perform all safety checks. Experience with climbing belay systems, high ropes required.

  • Swim Instructors/lifeguards (Minimum age 21+)   Provide safety coverage at our two pools and coordinate swim lessons, pool games, create fun aquatic events. Previous swim teaching and or lifeguarding experience and current Lifeguard Training/CPR certification required (or be able to complete by summer) 

  • Camper Advocate (Minimum age 21+)   Provide support to camp staff to assist campers with any behavioral or emotional concerns while at camp. Lead workshops on positive communication and esteem building activities. Previous experience in counseling, special education, behavior management or youth development required

  • Mountain Outpost Coordinator (Minimum age 21+) The outpost leaders runs the programs for TAP Counselors and 13-14 year old campers. The coordinator leads hiking, camping, cooking activities and chaperones the white water rafting trips (we use a rafting company).
