Position Summary
COBS Interim Safety Manager is a 4 month position tasked with supporting the school in driving safety initiatives and data analysis. The Safety Manger is responsible for supporting the Director of Programs and Safety in monitoring safety incidents, looking for trends, finding safety gaps and supporting the program teams when safety questions arise. This role will help get our Trimester Report ready and conduct our 2023 Safety Audit. During their time the Safety Manager will help also read course reports and ensure safety issues are being addressed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Support implementation of the National Safety Standards throughout COBS.
Monitor compliance with Outward Bound USA (OBUSA) and COBS policies and procedures.
Oversee incident reporting and the incident reporting database in line with OBUSA standards.
Conduct incident investigations as directed by the Director of Programs and Safety.
Participate in COBS emergency response system as required.
Hold the Operations Officer role when the Director of Programs and Safety is unavailable.
Update Incidents in the master incident tracking document.
Review safety incidents in the incident database and support the APD’s in regularly reviewing incidents.
Reading Course Reports and pulling important safety concerns or feedback.
Help support running a regular stress continuum survey at weekly meetings.
Conduct analysis of incidents for the Trimester 2 report.
Support COBS in their 2023 Safety Audit.
Deliver COBS training as required.
Meet with the APD’s of Safety and Curriculum on a weekly basis to review incidents, trends and safety related topics for the school.
Participate as part of the Operations Team working towards completing Ops priorities and contributing to discussions on decisions and topics for the school.
Participate in Board Safety Committee calls.
Participate in OBUSA working groups as directed by the Operations and HR Director.
Draft analysis of case study incidents for the Trimester Safety Reports for approval by the Director of Programs and Safety.
Complete additional projects as assigned.

Education and Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the outdoor education field, including training and safety management responsibilities.
Experience in COBS activities, and an understanding of our course areas preferred.
Project management experience preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a 4 month, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $20-$22.
This position will be on a 4 day work week with supporting On-Call as needed.
56 hours of paid Sick Leave.
