analysis of the patterns of drowning and near-drowning by the location of residence for each case revealed that people from remote regions were at higher risk of drowning and near-drowning.

Without information on the location of the drowning episode it is not possible to determine whether this finding reflects increased risk of exposure to water-related hazards when they occur in remote areas or a lack of experience in dealing with water-related hazards by people from remote regions.
