Job Description

Join us for a summer on the water as our Boat Cave Manager!  The Boat Cave Manager reports to the Director of Waterfronts and serves as an organizational resource to all Camp Life. The Boat Cave Manager oversees Lifeguards, the Boat Cave Staff and works daily to ensure a safe and enjoyable waterfront. Tasks include small craft instruction, all lifeguard duties, maintaining waterfront and continuing to be in peak physical condition to mitigate any and all risks that come with supervising a waterfront.  Additional duties include, but are not limited to: Setting up and tearing down waterfront boundaries, transporting or delivering equipment, keeping equipment inventory, assisting with camp division programming and attending lifeguard in-services. This position will also aid staff as needed to support recreation electives and regular cabin night activities.  

In addition, this position lives in a cabin with campers and serves as the primary caretaker on the counselor’s one day off.  

DATES AND SALARY:

  • Sunday, June 14, 2020, through Tuesday, August 10, 2020

  • $2,050/summer (All meals and housing is included; housing is located in a rustic cabin setting, with campers)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be lifeguard certified – training provided

  • Small craft certified – training provided

  • Physically able to assist with preparation, hauling of equipment, cleaning and maintenance of camp division facilities and spaces

  • Recreation and Waterfront staff must have the ability to effectively engage in appropriate communication (verbal and non-verbal) with students and other staff

  • Exhibit outstanding organizational skills

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Manage emotions appropriately and professionally in high-stress situations

  • Daily duties will be both inside and outside regardless of weather

  • Ability to function effectively and work cooperatively with peers 

  • Commitment to self-care (adequate sleep, physical exercise, nutrition, mental acuity)

  • Self-advocacy skills to seek assistance from others when facing difficulty

  • Manage multiple commitments and responsibilities to ensure deadlines are met

  • Outdoor Education or lifeguarding background a plus

  • May be required to drive an Interlochen vehicle and so must be eligible through Interlochen’s process
