Cabin Counselor

Job Description

Interlochen Center for the Arts is looking to hire Male & Female Cabin Counselors for the 2019 camp season. The dates of the agreement are 6/16/19-8/5/19 and the stipend for the entire duration of the agreement is $1,700. Housing is provided for the dates employed (early arrival/late stay requests, if space is available, will be paid in full by the employee). All meals are included with your agreement- breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The Cabin Counselor is the primary caregiver for students in their cabin and throughout the camp division.  The cabin counselor is responsible for the safety of students in their care, guiding students in their personal growth during their session, and serving as a role model in attitude, behavior, and actions. In addition, cabin counselors are responsible for explaining and establishing expectations for camper behavior and adhering to Interlochen Arts Camp policies for campers and staff.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Shared living environment with campers ranging in age from 8-18 years old

  • At least 18 years of age and graduated high school

  • Camp life staff must have the ability to effectively engage in appropriate communication (verbal and non-verbal) with students and other staff.

  • Daily duties will be both inside and outside regardless of weather

  • Ability to function effectively and work cooperatively with peers and divisional leadership

  • Developed skills in self-care (adequate sleep, activity, nutrition, mental acuity, managing emotions)

  • Commitment to self-advocacy and seeking assistance from others when facing difficulty

  • Physical and emotional stamina - ability to assist with preparation, cleaning and maintenance of camp division facilities and spaces.

  • A commitment to inclusion and acceptance of others

  • Ability to think on your feet, comfortably manage emergent situations

  • Creative thinking related to student interactions and development of student activities

  • Ability to function effectively and work cooperatively with peers and divisional leadership
