Position Summary:
Carroll School seeks a full-time Bounders Educator to deliver high-quality outdoor, experiential education for students in grades 6–8. Rooted in the Outward Bound model, the Bounders program is central to the Carroll experience, helping students build resilience, teamwork, and confidence through adventure-based learning.  This role operates within a co-teaching model, with shared responsibility for planning and instruction alongside a partner educator. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of character development and outdoor skill-building.

This role includes close collaboration with colleagues and school leadership to ensure a cohesive, mission-aligned program.  As the program expands, this educator will help shape its future design, contributing to the development of the program as grades reconfigure:

Grades 5–6: Foundational outdoor skills and group cohesion
Grades 7–9: Advanced leadership, autonomy, and expeditionary learning

Responsibilities:

Co-teach four classes daily
Plan and deliver engaging, safe, and inclusive outdoor education lessons
Teach a range of skills (e.g., navigation, fire-building, knot-tying, leadership, collaboration)
Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners
Maintain consistent classroom management and student support practices
Strengthen co-teaching partnership to maximize team effectiveness
Support equipment inventory and maintenance
Oversee and maintain the yearly Bounders budget
Participate in professional development
Contribute to the extended day program (minimum one session/year for first three years; additional compensation provided)
Perform other duties as needed
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Education, Experiential Education, Outdoor Recreation, or related field
Minimum 2 years of experience in outdoor education or wilderness leadership
Strong affinity for working with middle school students
Collaborative team member; co-teaching experience preferred
Interest in program development and growth
Experience in at least three of the following: climbing (low and high ropes), wood craft / wood carving, canoeing, backpacking, wilderness first aid
Familiarity with outdoor education standards; curriculum mapping experience preferred

Exact salary offered is dependent on educational credentials and years of experience.

1-10  years $60,100-$80,441

11-25 years $79,208-$102,157
