TreePeople is a well-known and respected environmental nonprofit organization that is mobilizing people, business, philanthropists, and public agencies to work together to create green, resilient communities by planting trees, capturing the rainwater, greening schools and providing fun environmental educational activities.

TreePeople’s On-site Tour Department delivers environmental education to over 10,000 people a year at Coldwater Canyon Park – home of TreePeople. This includes students, teachers, and the general public. On-site tours include, TreePeople’s award-winning Eco-tour program for K-12 students, it also includes monthly Moonlight Walks and Family Tours for the general public. The goal of the program is to inspire the Los Angeles community to take personal responsibility for their environment by creating a more climate resilient city through the planting and care of trees, conserving, capturing and infiltrating water, creating healthy productive soil and more.

We are seeking a part time (20 hours per week) Eco Educator to deliver environmental and sustainability education tours to K-12 students, family groups and the general public. 

Duties Include:

  • Delivering weekday Eco-tours for K-12 students.
  • Delivering monthly moonlight walks and family tours for the public on select weekends.
  • Delivering private weekend tours, as needed.
  • Presenting TreePeople’s “Traveling Dirt Doctor” at select outreach/school events.
  • Delivering other educational programs, as needed.
  • Maintaining all equipment, displays and props.
  • Supporting the Park Operations Department with trail maintenance and other park beautification activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Skills/Requirements: Must be committed to environmental sustainability. The ideal candidate should possess a sound grasp of ecology and environmental issues, a basic understanding of effective educational methods, cross-cultural sensitivity, and a playful, sense of fun.

  • Must have experience working with youth, teens and adults 
  • Have flexibility and patience.
  • Experience and/or education in interpretive/environmental education, and/or performing arts.  
  • Strong communication skills and comfortable speaking to a group or to individuals.
  • Spanish speaking a plus.
  • Comfortable and able to work outdoors, walk on hiking (up and down hill) trails, stand for long periods of times (as a presenter) and ability to lift 15 pounds.
  • Able to work flexible shifts M-F that may include evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Experience with administrative work.
  • Ability to drive to school and other locations.
