Every day hundreds of young adults participate in fun and engaging YMCA summer day camp programs. The Program Supervisor, Teen Summer Day Camp is responsible for the safety and well being of all participants and staff. They supervise and lead counselors and participants and serve as a professional role model, encouraging healthy and safe behaviors and creating a positive experience for all.  Recreational activities include but are not limited to, arts and crafts, sports, social recreation, songs, nature hikes, archery, and other games and enrichment activities for young adults.

Day Camp season runs June 20 – August 26 (start dates vary by location) with trainings for some positions beginning in early May/June. Shifts range from 6:45am – 6:15pm. Day camp program sites are located throughout the community surrounding our branches at local schools and parks.

Minimum compensation for this role is $24.00/hour.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

 

  1. Oversees day to day operations of a summer day camp focused on middle school age campers.
  2. Ensures planning and implementation of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA. Is responsible for the quality and completion of all program plans, including lesson, behavior and event plans.
  3. Provides guidance, leadership and direction to Camp Counselors. May hire, train and supervise Camp Counselors/volunteers. May assist in conducting staff meetings and organizing trainings.
  4. Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent program information and share about their camper’s experience.
  5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
  6. Maintains required records according to YMCA standards, including attendance records, registration information, accident reports and discipline records.
  7. May provide direct supervision to a group of Teens.
  8. May coordinate camper transportation and drive as necessary.
  9. May fulfill role of camp health manager (or alternate) by ensuring that site/program meets ACA and program safety and health standards, and by overseeing responses to medical and emergency situations.
  10. Ensures that site supplies are maintained and purchased as necessary.
  11. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  12. May recruits new enrollments.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for in an applicant

  1. 21 years of age or older.
  2. Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s preferred and have completed 30 college credits.
  3. Three years or more of experience working with young adults; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, coaching or teen leadership experience. 
  4. Experience planning and implementing group activities.
  5. One year or more of supervisory experience.
  6. Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty. 
  7. Immunization records.
  8. Current TB test by the Mantoux method. *

          *  Within 14 days of assuming camp duties

 

Preferred Education/Experience

• Current state approved first aid certification.*
• Current state approved CPR certification.*
• Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
• Experience with anti-racism practices and coalition building.
 

This role requires you to drive Y vehicles and participants:

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Current Driver’s License with a minimum 3 year’s safe driving experience and a driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards.
  • Maximum one minor violation.
  • No speeding violation of more than 20mph over the limit.
