Stone Mountain Adventures (SMA) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Camp Director to join us for an unforgettable summer camp experience! We are an overnight camp for teens, ages 12 to 16, offering water sports, adventure activities, traditional sports, creative arts and community service activities designed to foster personal growth, teamwork, and fun. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be instrumental in creating a positive, rewarding, and enriching experience for our campers and staff alike.

Key Responsibilities:

Support SMA’s mission by ensuring that our campers have a growth-filled experience through both the exciting activities we offer and the cooperative process of living together at camp.
Commit to a 12-week summer program (June 2 – August 20).
Ensure camper safety at all times, prioritizing their well-being and development.
Promote SMA’s policies and philosophy through all interactions with staff, volunteers, campers, parents, and the public.
Model strong work ethics and demonstrate high standards in all aspects of the role.
Assist the Camp Director in behavior management and lead conflict resolution sessions.
Participate in all camp activities, including in-camp, out of camp, and overnight events as needed.
Help plan and execute staff training by assisting in the preparation and delivery of our 10-day pre-camp staff training program.
Support Activity Specialists by guiding camper instruction and managing camper behavior during specialty periods.
Serve as a role model and mentor for all Counselors and Assistant Program Leaders (AOPs).
Lead AOP Training Sessions as needed to ensure ongoing development.
Run our All Camp Evening Meeting where campers choose activities for the following day.
Manage and lead the SMA AOP Program, overseeing 18- and 19-year-old participants.
Use positive reinforcement methods to manage camper behaviors and ensure a supportive environment.
Relay important parent communication to the Camp Director in a timely manner.
Collaborate in staff meetings, contributing ideas to improve camp operations.
Assist in creating and managing daily schedules, working closely with the Camp Director.
Ensure field trip logistics, including confirming venues and making sure Counselors are fully prepared.
Be ready to assist in any emergency situation involving campers, ensuring swift and appropriate responses.
Oversee operations in the Camp Director’s absence, ensuring all camp activities run smoothly.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
Knowledge and Experience Required:

At least two years of experience in organized camping or working with youth, with a minimum age of 21.
Ability to live onsite for the duration of the camp season.
A valid driver’s license and willingness to drive camp vehicles.
A high school diploma or GED (or currently attending post-secondary school) is required; a graduate degree is a plus.
First Aid/CPR certification (can be completed during staff training week).
Skills Required:

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with staff and campers.
Ability to make thoughtful, mission-driven decisions in the best interest of every camper.
Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Adaptability to changing situations and the ability to think on your feet.
A creative mindset and the ability to engage campers in a variety of activities.
Competence in aquatic emergency response, ensuring safety in and around water activities.
Essential Attributes:

A genuine passion for working with teenagers and providing a fun and nurturing summer experience.
High energy, motivation, and enthusiasm to inspire and engage campers and staff alike.
The ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of directors and staff.
Confidence in supervising teens and handling a variety of situations, both planned and unforeseen.
A commitment to training and development, attending sessions to improve skills.
A professional demeanor in handling sensitive and confidential information.
Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Professional appearance and attitude, setting an example for others.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:

The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including hiking over varied terrain.
Physical stamina to lift up to 30 pounds, and carry items up a flight of stairs when necessary.
Flexibility to stoop, kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods of time.
Prolonged periods spent on a computer or phone for communication purposes.
Compensation:

This is a full-time, seasonal, salaried position and provides a yearly salary commensurate with experience. Other benefits include room and board during the camp season, free camp tuition for eligible children, professional development and certification reimbursement, and access to pro-purchase programs.
