3 Sisters Avalanche Case Study

Author(s): Avalanche Canada
Video Release Date: January 11, 2016
Video Source: Vimeo

This first-hand and very frank account–immediately after the skier was caught in a small avalanche–gives some important insight into assessing and managing risk in backcountry skiing/boarding situations. The big takeaways here are that even with careful assessment (digging snowpits, etc.) when the avalanche danger is considerable the consequences of getting off your line (which can easily happen in the backcountry) can have serious consequences.
