Aerie Backcountry Medicine has been teaching wilderness medicine courses since 1995. Our primary courses are Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, WFR-Recertification, and Wilderness EMT, although we also offer a variety of other courses. We provide a nationally and internationally recognized certification that remains valid for 2 years. Our certifications are accepted for employment purposes by agencies such as the US Forest Service, the National Park Service, the SCA, NOLS, Outward Bound, and many others. Our courses are approved by the American Camping Association and all meet and exceed the first aid requirement for Montana’s and Idaho’s Board of Outfitters. ALl of our WFR and WEMT courses are available for college credit through the University of Montana, and through this arrangement, we can also accept Americorp Educational Awards for these courses.

Our instructors are all professional care providers, ranging from Wilderness EMT’s to MD’s, while at the same time being outdoor leaders. Many of Aerie’s instructors regularly present at national and international wilderness medicine and risk management conferences.
