The two primary objectives of this program are to provide 1) math and literacy interventions to students performing below proficiency in school and 2) intentional out-of-school programming to youth after school, on Fridays and throughout the summer. AmeriCorps members will be placed at Crestone Charter School, Moffatt School or Mountain Valley School, each which have less than 150 students, k-12, and are located in rural communities throughout northern Saguache County. AmeriCorps members working with out of school programing for grades 6-12 will have opportunities to explore the Rocky Mountains through various organized outdoor leadership activities such as cross-country skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing and whitewater rafting.
