Camp Deerhorn

Updated: May 11, 2004

Camp Deerhorn is a medium sized boys’ camp located in Rhinelander, WI. We have been family owned and operated since 1930. Every year we have boys, ages 7-18, from approximately 28 U.S. States and 5-10 foreign countries. We offer traditional camp activities, such as mountain biking, soccer, swimming, sailing, water skiing, horse back riding, archery, and riflery. However, we also have many unique programs, such as our father/son camp, hockey camp, and Voyager and WOLF programs. Voyager Leadership Program is for boys age 15 and includes an 8 day trip out of camp, hiking in the Porcupine Mountains and kayaking in the Apostle Islands. WOLF is for boys ages 16-18 and includes a 2 week trip sea kayaking and hiking in the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior.
Those who have been camp counselors before invariably tell us that their seasons on the Deerhorn staff have been among the most enjoyable and rewarding of their lives. Their reasons for coming back include:

A break from school. In this day of “pressure education,” some time spent in Wisconsin’s Northwoods presents a refreshing change of pace from the grind of studies.

The experience of working with boys. Being associated with boys, teaching them new skills and bolstering their confidence along with developing their character is, without question, a highly rewarding experience.

Strong friendships. Your fellow staff members will be outstanding men and women from all parts of the United States and abroad. Lifelong friendships are made at Deerhorn. There is a strong camraderie on the Deerhorn staff.

Being in Wisconsin. You will have the opportunity to spend part of your summer in what may be to you, a new part of the country. Living in Wisconsin’s Northwoods in the summer months is a truly exhilarating and refreshing experience!

Use of camp facilities. While the campers are the “paying customers”, one of the big attractions of being a counselor at Deerhorn is that you will frequently be able to shoot archery, water ski, sail, etc. Deerhorn is far more liberal than other camps with these opportunities.
