The Camp McDowell Environmental Center is a community dedicated to making the world a better place to live. We do this through our residential Environmental Education center located in rural Wionston County, Alabama. We host elementary and middle school students for 3-5 day programs. During their stay, the students learn everything from appreciating and caring for the natural world around them to caring for themselves and each other. We hope to foster a sence of community as well as an apprieciation, understanding and responsibility for the environment. We believe that children learn best by doing, seeing , touching and becoming immersed in the natural world. By teaching in small groups (no more than 12 students) we are able to spend quality time with each student. Our lessons are correlated to the Alabama Course of Study for both Science and Social Studies and play a key role in the visiting school’s curriculum.
