The Outdoor Education Program is dedicated to wilderness-based learning and leadership through a core of both field and theory-based courses. Completion of course work leads to a certificate in outdoor education. In addition the development of a major in outdoor education is underway Key to the program is the immersion semester which occurs every other year; in this semester a cadre of students attend intensive field-based courses ending with a 35-day expedition. The outdoor education program is an affiliate of the Wilderness Education Association (WEA) and offers two sanctioned courses per year. Currently there are 45 students in the certificate program
