City Of Raleigh’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources has many divisions and sections within our overall department. This profile is for the Outdoor Recreation Program. Outdoor Recreation is a part of the Natural Resources Section.
Our mission in Outdoor Recreation is to enrich the lives of our patrons through programs, services and park facilities that connect them with the natural environment. Outdoor Recreation seeks to foster a personal connection to resources through firsthand experience and evaluation of one’s relationship with the natural environment.
Our goal is to provide a variety of exceptional programs, services and park facilities that reach all members of the community. Programs, services and park facilities are designed to assist the balance of our participant’s physical, mental or social needs through the use of the outdoor environment.
Our facilities include two lake parks (Lake Johnson & Lake Wheeler) with a combined total of 950+ acres, 5 river access points along the Neuse River, two discgolf courses and our newest park Forest Ridge which is 650 acres. Outdoor Recreation includes Adventure Program offerings including but not limited to, Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Biking, Wilderness Survival Skills, Team Building, and Summer Camps.
We continue to support the Raleigh community by “Bring people to parks and parks to people.”
