Welcome to Colorado Rocky Mountain School, an exceptional college-preparatory institution that gives our students the skills, confidence, and knowledge to be successful in life and to contribute to their communities.
CRMS’s emphasis on growth, creativity, and leadership is rooted in our philosophical foundations and is present in everything that we do at our school. When John and Anne Holden founded this school, they did so under a simple mandate: that all the work students engaged in would have purpose, meaning, and relevancy. John and Anne were inspired by John Dewey’s emphasis on usable knowledge and experiences to produce ideal citizens. For us, this translates into an education that goes well beyond four years of college. Our mission is to cultivate a learning environment in which we prepare our students for all the roles and responsibilities that they will take on throughout their adult lives.
We believe that young people want to make a difference in the world and to actively participate in their communities. At CRMS we have embraced Kurt Hahn’s motto,
“In life, we are not passengers, but members of the crew.”
As crew members, we take ownership of our learning community and responsibility for each and every member. We believe that you will find few independent school communities as welcoming as CRMS. There is a shared ownership between all members of the school. Students must bring a willingness to grow in intellect and character, and our faculty and staff must act as “environmental specialists” who nurture and cultivate each and every student’s drive to improve and to maximize their potential. We want to ensure all our students that they will be surrounded by enthusiastic and community-minded young adults.
CRMS intentionally keeps its student population at 165 students, because we place a strong emphasis on knowing each individual student. Our classrooms, trips, and outdoor activities are designed to emphasize tight-knit relationships as we do our work together, because we believe that one does not, and cannot, be a part of a learning community and work alone.
Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions that you can make. At CRMS we are accepting students who will be kind, hard-working, and passionate citizens. We invite you to become a member of our crew.
My Best,
Jeff Leahy
